To start of a picture taken during Sean´s filming of GOT.

Is he always Sean's double in different things or are they hired separately for different films? I know a lot of people here have various levels of knowledge about how films are made, but I haven't a clue.

Post by: Amber on June 09, 2015, 07:03:19 PM: Stand-ins are just the same height, and colouring possibly. to do all the boring stuff like getting the lighting right on each scene without our boy having the tedium of standing whilst the setting up is being done around him, and everything is measured and marked so the stand-in can be used to work out exactly where every mark needs to be to get the shot right. There are all sorts of other issues to take into account like eyeline matches and the CGI markers all of which the stand-in can do then Sean just wanders on to the set, stands in the right place, does his magical thing and voila!

My mother was a stand-in on a film solely because she was the same height, build and colouring as Lauren Bacall and the only woman in India at the time who was so ... she got to stand around in astonishing heat under lights whilst people measured everything, rehearsed and planned explosions around her, and walked through a railway carriage full of 'dead' extras who were touching her legs as she did as they had not experienced a white woman's skin close up like that. Dull stuff for a star, especially in that heat, but a coup for my Mum and very well paid!

Thanks. Never seen this one before. They all look pretty cold and tired. Except the two in the back left, who are probably locals who don't feel the cold. lol

I thought Tilda Swinton might have been an interesting choice for Lady Macbeth if Vince Regan's version of "Macbeth" had actually been made with Sean as originally planned.

#throwbackthursday June 1st 2008, the day I moved home from Derby. Following an entertaining game between Derry City and Cork City, I met @sean_bean_official in my uncle Badger's bar. My uncle Declan, who sadly died in 2012, was charged with showing him around the city, on behalf of the Football club's Development Committee, during the time Sean spent in the city. Sean after sent him a lovely framed photo that was displayed proudly in Declan's kitchen.

He signed autographs and had photos, seemed a top bloke. My mate picked up his disposable pint glass.....he still has it. Former Home Secretary Charles Clarke was also sat in front of us......

Sean Bean and Melanie Griffith - Newcastle-upon-Tyne, 1987. I travelled up from London on the train with Jim Fallon from Fairchild (it felt a bit Get Carter!) for a shoot and interview with the stars of a new British/American gangster film, ‘Stormy Monday’ (which also starred Sting and Tommy Lee Jones) being filmed up there.
You never know with actors especially if they’re going to be temperamental and say ‘You’ve got 5 minutes’ or be totally accommodating, and this wasn’t the easiest of shoots. They were filming in a café on the high street - Melanie was playing a waitress - and I dragged them down to the riverside so I could get those super bridges in the background. On their lunch break. I really wanted the background with the bridges and sky to go dark and moody, like a Bill Brandt photo, but it was a fairly bright day with open sky by the river. An ordinary small flash wasn’t powerful enough to allow me to stop down enough for the bridges to be underexposed, but overall I was happy with the results.

After completing the BBC Directors’ course came the long wait, trudging between producers with your showreel, hoping for a TV job. However there was still theatre work for me: in 1990, I directed ‘Killing the Cat’ by David Spencer (writer of Releevo) at the Royal Court Studio. I sent the play to Sean Bean's agent but could get little information or help from him. Sean had played Angelo for me in Measure for Measure at RADA, so we already knew and respected each other. One evening the phone rang and it was Sean - as ever, he went straight to the point: "It’s a good play, in't it?” - or words to that effect - and in a matter of minutes he'd committed himself to being in the production, never to waver.

From that starting point, I built my cast: Val Lilley, Henry Stamper, Sally Rogers, Kate McLoughlin and, as the young Danny, Dominic Kinnaird. Shimon, the designer, transformed the studio space of the Theatre Upstairs into a site-specific exploration of Danny's state of mind and memory. We had a tough and tempestuous rehearsal period, but we created something that packed an emotional punch. As a result, the reviews divided between love and hate.

Bill Stephenson was a fine art student living a stone's throw from Bramall Lane when he was commissioned to take promotional photos for a 1990 BBC documentary United.
The cameras arrived in good time, capturing Sheffield United's promotion-winning 1989/90 season and the feel-good factor around the club's return to the old First Division.
Among those pictured was actor and Blades fan Sean Bean, who Stephenson, now 68 and retired from his career as a commercial and social documentary photographer, bumped into with his friends before a match.
"He was certainly well known at that time," said Stephenson, who later photographed Bean in the film When Saturday Comes.
"It was great to see him with his mates," added Stephenson.
"They weren't actors, they were just guys who worked in warehouses and were down to earth."
Bean and his friends had been drinking in the Sportsman pub on Denby Street when Stephenson came across them.
