Sean Bean to Star in Crackle Drama ‘The Oath’
The 'Game of Thrones' alum will play a hard-changing cop in the 10-episode series from 50 Cent.
Sean Bean is headed to Crackle.
The Lord of the Rings actor has been cast in The Oath, a new drama from the Sony Pictures Television Network streaming service. The 10-episode series is executive produced by 50 Cent and his G-Unit Film & Television Inc., and will debut in 2018.
The Oath is described as a gritty, action-packed drama that explores a world of gangs made up of those sworn to protect and defend and sheds light on corrupt and secret societies that are nearly impossible to join — only a select few make the cut — but once inside, members will do what they must to protect each other from enemies on the outside and from within their own ranks.
Bean will play Tom Hammond, a hard-charging cop and ruthless leader of the prominent gang made up of those who are meant to enforce the law. After doing a deal with an undercover FBI agent, Hammond finds himself behind bars but after he's released, his desire to make his way back to the top of the food chain and back in control of the gang he once led puts him head to head with those who used to have his back.
The series is created by Joe Halpin (Hawaii Five-O, Secrets and Lies), who worked as a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputy in South Central for 17 years, a dozen of which as an undercover officer. The show takes an unforgiving look at the complicated dynamics in these organizations and documents the lives of those willing to risk it all to have it all.

Halpin will serve as the showrunner and executive produce alongside 50 Cent, Todd Hoffman and Dennis Kim of Storied Media. The show’s premiere episode will be directed by Blindspot’s Jeff T. Thomas.
Bean is represented by CAA and Jane Epstein at Independent Talent in the UK.

His other credits include co-starring in Lifetime’s film Whitney as “Bobby Brown”, and features Into The Storm, Final Destination 5, Brotherhood, and the Friday the 13th remake.

Ryan Kwanten has boarded the action-packed series from the Sony Pictures Television Network streaming service starring Sean Bean. The actor will also serve as a producer on the 10-episode show, which is created and written by former Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Joe Halpin (Hawaii Five-O) and executive produced by 50 Cent.
Kwanten will play Steve Hammond, son of Tom Hammond (Bean) and the leader of a cop gang, The Ravens. Training Day star Katrina Law has just been cast in Crackle‘s The Oath series. She’ll join previously-announced cast members Sean Bean (Game of Thrones), Ryan Kwanten (True Blood), Cory Hardrict (American Sniper) and Arlen Escarpeta (The Magicians). In The Oath series, Law will play Karen Beach, a police officer, and the sole female member of the Ravens cop gang, who has tendency to overcompensate by out-toughing the macho company she runs with and gets involved in a forbidden love affair with a member of a rival cop gang.

Sean Bean (Game of Thrones, The Fellowship of the Ring) leads the series ensemble cast, which also includes Ryan Kwanten (True Blood), Cory Hardrict (American Sniper, Gran Torino), Katrina Law (Training Day), Arlen Escarpeta (The Magicians), and JJ Soria (Animal Kingdom, The Fosters). Additional cast members announced today include Michael Malarkey (The Vampire Diaries), Eve Mauro (CSI Miami), Kwame Patterson (The Wire, American Crime Story), Linda Purl (Homeland, True Blood) and Elisabeth Röhm (Law & Order).

Michael Malarkey plays Sam Foster, a police officer and lieutenant for the Vipers, a rival cop gang. Going through a difficult and expensive divorce, he is involved in a forbidden love affair with Karen Beach (portrayed by Law), a member of the Ravens.
Eve Mauro portrays Theresa Winters, a cop and leader of the Vipers, a rival cop gang within the department. Ruthless and unpredictable, there are no lines she is not willing to cross. With Tom Cole (Sean Bean) in prison, she has taken his place working with local drug dealer, Neckbone (Kwame Patterson).
Kwame Patterson plays Neckbone, a calculating and dangerous high-level drug dealer with multiple cop gangs on his payroll. His organization is currently under threat from a new designer drug. As the series progresses, he sets off a chain of events that forces the Ravens into the middle of a drug war.
Linda Purl is Gwenn Hammond, Steve and Cole’s mother, and Tom’s ex-wife. Suffering from late stage cancer, Gwenn takes laundered money from Steve for her treatments. Though she and Tom have ended their marriage they remain on good terms, and still care about each other.
Elisabeth Röhm plays Aria Price, a senior FBI agent. Byrd’s (Escarpeta) handler in the undercover operation targeting the Ravens. A shrewd bureaucratic animal and creature of expediency. Her mandate is to steer corrupt cops back to the right path, but there’s also a darker, more opportunistic side to Aria that comes to light further on in the series.

Pretty sure that he is one of the leads if not THE lead. That is what all the other press releases have lead me to think. Also, he is a producer on this series. I'm sure he wouldn't do that if he just had a cameo role.

‘The Oath’: Robert Gossett & Isaac Keys Set To Recur In Crackle Drama Series
The Closer alum Robert Gossett and Isaac Keys (Jurassic World, Beyond the Lights) have been cast in recurring roles in Crackle’s upcoming drama series The Oath, executive produced by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson (Power) and his G-Unit Film & Television.
Gossett plays Sac Charles Ryder, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI investigation and Price’s (Elisabeth Röhm) superior officer. He demands an in-person account of Price’s meetings with Neckbone (Kwame Patterson) and is barely polite while talking with Byrd (Arlen Escarpeta). Keys portrays G, one of Neckbone’s (Kwame Patterson) trusted lieutenants who assists his boss in breaking into a storage facility with hundreds of boxes of WMD capsules — but it’s all bait for a perfect arrest.

Today I celebrate making it past the half way mark on The Oath. This project is lightening in a bottle. So many elements have come together to create a near perfect work experience and the time is just flying by. First drafts of episodes are starting to come out, talks of what everyone will be doing after this show wraps are being had, and yet everyone is wanting to savor the moment. I can't wait for you all to see this project. I have high hopes for this one.

What do you celebrate today? Day 183 of 365. Today I celebrate mid-airport rendezvous. With Hurricane Irma threatening to be the worst hurricane Puerto Rico has seen in 100 years, @sonypictures and @theoathcrackle decided to evacuate us from the island. With genuine relief, we touched down in NYC as part of our layover to LAX (flights were full) and were so happy to run into each other.

UPDATE, 4 PM: Sony-owned Crackle is returning to San Juan, Puerto Rico Saturday to wrap production on The Oath. Filming on the 10-episode series was interrupted last month following devastating Hurricane Maria and its aftermath. The show, which began filming there in July, has about nine days of shooting left, a Sony spokesperson told Deadline. The Oath, starring Sean Bean, Ryan Kwanten and Katrina Law, is executive produced by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson (Power) and his G-Unit Film & Television, Todd Hoffman and Dennis Kim of Storied Media Group, Anne Clements (StartUp) and Joe Halpin who is also creator, writer and showrunner. Sony’s free streaming service Crackle has released the first teaser for its upcoming scripted drama, “The Oath.” The cast includes notable favorites like Ryan Kwanten of “True Blood,” Kwame Patterson of “The Wire,” and Sean Bean of “Game of Thrones.”
The series is made up of 10 hour-long episodes and immerses us in the underbelly of the justice system in a fictional American metropolis. “The Oath” tells the story of the officers who, although have sworn to serve and protect us, have taken advantage of their authority by participating in illegal activity. The corrupt members must now protect each other as their loyalty measures up to gang status, inside and outside of prison.
"The Oath” was created by former Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Joe Halpin, who worked undercover for 12 years. Halpin drew experiences during this impressionable time to create a series that takes a close look at the complex dynamics in the justice organizations across the country, focusing on the individuals who risk everything to try and have it all.
An impressive ensemble cast puts “The Oath” in a truly interesting place, making the Crackle drama one to watch. Michael Malarkey of “The Vampire Diaries,” Cory Hardrict of “American Sniper,” Eve Mauro of “CSI Miami,” and Linda Purl of “Homeland” will star alongside Bean and Kwanten.

Series co-star Ryan Kwanten, on stage with other members of the ensemble cast, described the “strong gravitation toward the material” by “actors like us.”
“Most of us aren’t classically trained,” he said, describing them as being of the “more life-experience acting.”
“This is the kind of stuff we salivate over,” he added.
One of the TV critics wondered if they made fun of the series’ big-name star, Sean Bean, who actually studied his craft and
graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts.
“Fortunately this kind of material brings the best performance out of Sean too,” Kwanten acknowledged, generously.
Kwanten, who plays Bean’s son in the series, described the thespian, who was not present, as someone who changes the temperature in the room when he walks in.
“You have to come in, locked and loaded” when working with Bean, Kwanten said, unironically.

AXN shows cop gang drama "The Oath" with Sean Bean
In March, the new series "The Oath" celebrates its US premiere at the Sony streaming service Crackle, only a few days later, the series with Sean Bean can be seen in this country. The German premiere is on AXN.
As part of the Berlinale's Drama Series Days, trade visitors will be able to get a first glimpse of the new Sony series "The Oath" before the premiere of the streaming service Crackle will be on the program on 8 March in the USA. But German viewers do not have to wait much longer: Already on March 12, the pay-TV channel AXN takes the series into the program and shows it on Mondays from 22:55 clock in double episodes.
"The Oath" is dedicated to the secret and corrupt world of police bands, which is almost impossible to join. The members have sworn to protect their own ranks from internal and external dangers - at any price. The creator, author and showrunner of the series is Joe Halpin - and he brings insider knowledge, having worked as an undercover cop in Los Angeles for twelve years prior to his writing career.

We’ll be getting more of Sean Bean (Game of Thrones) this spring when his new crime drama, The Oath, premieres on the Crackle streaming service on March 8, reports ComingSoon.net.
The fast-moving trailer reveals the world of crooked cops who operate in close-knit gangs. The show creator Joe Halpin perhaps looked to his past life for inspiration. He worked as an undercover police officer in L.A. for 12 of his 17 years on the force, so we’re guessing he crossed paths with plenty of not so savory sorts.
We’re first introduced to Bean as Tom Hammond, the show’s antihero and leader of a prominent cop gang, wearing an orange jumpsuit and walking through a prison. In a later scene, he’s in plain clothes, brandishing a gun. He’s been released, which leads us to wonder: what’s on his agenda?
Bean is joined by Ryan Kwanten (True Blood), taking on the role of a police officer named Steve Hammond, the elder Hammond’s son.

The series is produced by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, who we just mentioned in a post about the forthcoming Den of Thieves sequel. Berlinale Drama Series Days Sees American TV Playing to the World
A number of American drama series imports are hitting Berlinale’s Drama Series Days, but despite depicting a variety of States-specific stories — such as the politics and power battles in the American high school system in Jack Ferry and Ryan Hunter’s “Mr. Student Body President”; the rivalry between the FBI and the CIA in Dan Futterman’s “The Looming Tower”; or gang culture on the streets and within the police force in Joe Halpin’s “The Oath” — producers are preparing for international audiences.
“It’s informed by a life I used to live, so it’s definitely rooted in the American police infrastructure,” Halpin says about “The Oath.” “But I think an international audience can empathize with it because any power structure, when it gets corrupted, I think everybody throughout the world experiences that.”
“The Oath” was also designed around the theme of family, which Halpin says will also speak universally.
“[Family] resonates in every aspect of every character in every story of the show. If you join a police force, it’s a family structure. If you join a gang, then again it’s intimate and a more kind of confined family,” he says. “Even though our characters are not doing good things, it’s funny because in life if a stranger does something we’re very judgmental but we’re not as harsh to judge our family members. I figured that could cause everyone to relax and follow our characters on their journey and see that this path of corruption leads to nowhere.”
Series such as “The Looming Tower” and “The Oath” are also aided by casts with international recognizability. “The Looming Tower” boasts Jeff Daniels and Peter Sarsgaard, while “The Oath” features Sean Bean, Ryan Kwanten and Katrina Law, and also has Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson as an executive producer.

US streaming platform Crackle delves into the world of cop gangs with 10-part drama The Oath. Showrunner Joe Halpin reveals how the show is informed by his own career in the LAPD and how he made the move from police officer to TV writer.
The jump from undercover cop to television writer might seem improbable, but that’s the one made by Joe Halpin. After 17 years in law enforcement, he worked his way from low-budget features to television and is now showrunner of the latest original series to land on US streamer Crackle.
The Oath centres on police gangs and sheds light on the corrupt and secretive societies that do whatever they must to protect each other from enemies on the outside and within their own ranks.
The 10-part series opens as a group of corrupt cops known as The Ravens are arrested by the FBI, which is targeting the multiple cop gangs in the police department. Led by Steve Hammond (Ryan Kwanten), the Ravens are pressured to inform on the other gangs and forced by Agent Aria Price (Elisabeth Röhm) to take on undercover agent Damon Byrd (Arlen Escarpeta) and sell him as one of their own.
With the threat of prison hanging over their heads, Steve must ensure his fellow Ravens – his adopted brother Cole (Cory Hardrict), his partner Pete Ramos (JJ Soria) and Karen Beach (Katrina Law) – stay in line as they operate under the shadow of the Feds while keeping the deal a secret from the other Ravens, including their imprisoned former leader, Tom Hammond (Sean Bean), father of Steve and Cole.
The series is executive produced by Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson and his G-Unit Film & Television label, along with Todd Hoffman and Dennis Kim of Storied Media Group, Anne Clements and Halpin. Sony Pictures Television holds distribution rights.
Halpin, who is the creator, writer and showrunner of the Oath, is emphatic when he explains how the plotlines are informed by something he experienced, witnessed or was privy to during his career as a cop. “I just thought it would be a great area for storytelling, and what better way to have a conversation about a problem within the department than create a show that reveals something most people don’t know about?” he says.
British-born Halpin moved to the US with his family when he was 12. He spent 17 years in law enforcement, starting in the LA County Sheriff’s department where he worked in jails holding members of notorious LA gangs including the Bloods and the Crips. After spending time as a training officer and field officer, he moved into narcotics, working on undercover operations. He later carried out undercover and surveillance work for the FBI and the DEA.
Halpin later became in demand for celebrity bodyguard work and was shadowing Steven Seagal during a trip to Poland when he first began to consider the possibility of using his experiences as a cop to become a writer. A year later, he sold a script that was turned into a feature.
“It wasn’t anything I was looking to do but once I sat down and started doing it, I became obsessed with it and doing it well,” Halpin recalls. “There are a lot of people in this business who are glorified tech advisors, who never quite learn to write but they’re kept around because they’re great in the [writers] room and great at story. But I wanted to make sure I wasn’t one of those people. I eventually got out of low-end features and got into television because I realised that’s where the real writers and real experienced storytellers were nowadays.”
He has since earned credits on shows such as True Justice, Hawaii Five-0, Secrets & Lies and Ice. And now his experience working for the LAPD has directly influenced The Oath, with The Ravens based on a police gang he was a member of, The Reapers. “I eventually went on to lead that gang and during that time I was being investigated and followed by both LAPD and the DA [district attorney]’s office,” he reveals. “So when I eventually got out and got into writing, I thought that world was a great place and a rich world for storytelling.”
The story behind The Oath is something Halpin says he has been pitching since he found his way into the television business, though he admits he wasn’t ready to make the show until now. “I wasn’t prepared, I wasn’t really good enough or experienced enough up until this point,” he says. But after Halpin forged a relationship with Crackle, the project moved very quickly. The writers room only opened in January last year but the full series will roll out on March 8.
In the room, Halpin and his team of writers laid the track for each character – their physical and emotional story arcs – before breaking down each episode to ensure it was well paced throughout the season. The biggest challenge, however, was to maintain the tension across 10 episodes. “It’s like holding a piece of string tightly,” Halpin explains. “If you make a mistake in the structure of not maintaining that tension then you can lose the audience and it becomes ineffectual storytelling. So I really focus on making sure the pacing and the structure is very strong in each episode.”
Under the stewardship of directors Jeff T Thomas and Luis Prieto, much of the series was shot with handheld cameras, granting Halpin’s wish that The Oath feel extremely voyeuristic, inviting the audience into the story.
Filming took place in San Juan, Puerto Rico, which provided a vivid backdrop for the series, ostensibly set in an unspecified southern US city. Production was far from straightforward, however, as the cast and creative team were twice flown off the island to avoid two incoming category five hurricanes.
“That was obviously difficult, not because of the difficulty or the interruption but because the crew became like family so there was a lot of survivor’s guilt for myself and the actors to get on a plane and leave,” the showrunner says. “But we stayed in touch on WhatsApp and we were talking to them as the hurricane was hitting, making sure everyone was OK.”
He admits he was a little wary about the location when Crackle first suggested San Juan, having imagined The Oath being filmed in the South Central district of LA where he himself walked the streets. “But then when I visited and I saw the areas and the professionalism of the crew they were using out there, I realised it would enhance the show, it would make storytelling that much better and more vivid,” he says. “It’s almost like someone took a crayon to South Central – it has that same danger in the air but it’s colourful.
“Where I see familiar things like the streets of LA, New York or Vancouver where you film a lot, I kind of tune out when they’re driving in a car. But when I watch shows like Narcos, where I see different colour schemes and different architecture, it interests me more and I thought it would be great for our show because it looks like its set in the southern United States but you just don’t know where, and we did that on purpose because we didn’t want to paint any single police department with the brush of corruption. It enhanced the storytelling and made it a more dynamic exciting world.”
As a showrunner, Halpin says he “thrives during chaos,” which makes him perfect for a hugely demanding role that constantly demands he stays focused on the job while putting out numerous fires along the way. The secret to success, he suggests, is being able to trust and delegate to those around him, taking his lead from showrunners he admires such as Rick Eid (now overseeing Chicago PD) and Peter Leskov (Hawaii Five-0, MacGyver).
“What I’ve learned is the biggest sin a showrunner can commit is to not make a decision,” Halpin notes. “Whether people like it or don’t like it, you’re expected to make a decision and I equate it to asking someone back in the 1800s to go out to sea with you. You’re out there and there’s no sign of land and the food’s getting short. If you don’t know where you’re going, they’re going to cut your throat, throw you overboard and go back where they came from. If you’re going to lead people, you have to have a very clear vision and know where you’re going. If anything, it reinforced that people around me expect me to be prepared and to know where I’m going and to always be that way whenever I’m running a show.”
He’s now planning multiple season of The Oath, which he says could live on beyond the current cast of characters by sticking to its central theme of cop gang culture.
“It’s definitely set so we go deeper down the rabbit hole in season two, three, four and five,” Halpin adds. “Like any great serialised show, there’s a very good chance we’ll lose a few of the players along the way and we’ll acquire new players, but that world and that core group we’ll probably stay with for at least four or five seasons.”

In The Oath, Sean Bean's Tom Hammond is a dedicated and hard-wired cop who ruthlessly heads up a gang of mostly lawful enforcers. After a deal goes wrong with an undercover FBI agent, Hammond finds himself behind bars (as seen above), which completely removes him from his powerful position. Once he's released, Tom has only one goal in mind, and that's to reclaim his throne at the head of the gang, but he'll have to take on a lot of his former underlings in order to do so.
The clip above obviously takes place in the interim between Tom's fall from morally ambiguous grace and his potential rise to morally ambiguous glory, and it's clear that Bean's badass is mixed up with some powerful people. Keeping quiet in jail is definitely his best bet, since blabbing about the "business" will only put a target on his head. Of course, smashing a guard in the face with a basketball could also put a completely different target on his head, but he doesn't look worried. He's Tom Hammond, dammit.

'The Oath': Ryan Kwanten on Breaking Bad in Crackle's New Crime Drama
TV Insider caught up with Kwanten recently to get the lowdown on his new role in the Crackle crime drama.
What was the appeal of playing this character? Steve Hammond is definitely different from Jason Stackhouse!
Ryan Kwanten: It was the opportunity to not just get a little dirt under the fingernails [but] really dig deep into the recesses of my own life experience and to bring a little bit of those skeletons and those demons to the forefront. This is the kind of show that would embrace what some people would consider flaws, or those things that we all harbor. The fact that we keep focusing on family and love is not something you expect to hear from this type of a show.
The family element gives the show so many places to go as well as some depth.
The pilot is really a chance to snare viewers with the hooks. Once those hooks are in, you will get dragged down into this rabbit hole of madness that we all did. Those snap judgments that you might make on some of the characters may sort of get reversed. We play with the very notions and the clichés that we're used to seeing and we kind of flip that.
When we meet Hammond, is this where he wants to be in his life or is there another reason he goes down this path?
That's a very good question. He's obviously lived a life in the shadow of his father [Bean's character], who has been a cop his whole life and leading the Ravens for some time. And then his father is now in jail for being a little too obvious with his cop gang dealings.
Because of that, I've come in as a surrogate leader of the gang now. There's a certain amount of Hammond being able to watch his father, and his father's a lot more instinctual, whereas Hammond's a lot more pragmatic about the choices. He wants to sit back and be a bit more of a tactician before doing things. It's a constantly shifting group dynamic. It's me becoming comfortable with the gang. The gang becoming comfortable with me, but then the stakes keep getting darker and deeper.
What is his relationship like with his father?
As far as Hammond is concerned, he would rather have his father be as non-existent as possible. He's not particularly happy with the way that his father, Tom, has treated his mother. That's a huge sort of conflict point between myself and Cole, my adopted brother.
Whereas he still has an allegiance to his father, my allegiance is now with Mom [Linda Purl]. All the money that we make is literally buying her time. She's so stricken with cancer, and they're trying alternative methods to chemotherapy. All sorts of things to keep her alive. There's things that he's fighting for that are beyond sort of the scope of the job.
So everything Hammond is doing is for his mother, which would make her his Achilles heel in some way.
Ah, very well said! It's not that it gives him permission to do the things that he does, but it certainly gives him a motivation. Linda Purl does such an exquisite job.
What was the biggest challenge for you when shooting season one?
Maintaining a level of intensity day in and day out because you have to imagine that these cops put themselves in these extreme circumstances on a regular basis. And that can't help but weigh on a man.
A lot of people have a chip on their shoulder, and Hammond's got a boulder on his shoulder. Cops learn to repress that pain and be unknown, but that's at the same time a demon. It's sort of festering like a cancer inside of you. I've always described Hammond as like a human coiled spring.

AXN shows "The Oath" a little later than planned
In mid-February AXN had announced the launch of "The Oath" in Germany for 12 March, but it will not come to that. As the broadcaster has informed, the spectators have to be patient for a little longer: the original version with subtitles can only be seen in double episodes from 9:45 pm on Mondays. The series premiered on 8 March at the streaming service Crackle.
Why the German viewers now have to wait a month longer than originally planned, said AXN not. For the transmitter has now also called a start date for the German dubbed version of the series. This is on Tuesdays from 29 May every Tuesday from 21:50 clock to see the start shows you three episodes in one fell swoop. Overall, the first season of "The Oath" includes ten episodes.

Premiere: The Oath in German version
The start of the subtitled original version is now on April 9, from 22:55 clock in double sequences (originally scheduled for March 12).
The exclusive premiere of the German version will start on May 29 from 21:50 clock with three episodes in a row on AXN in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Following the broadcast, the episodes will be available on demand at the video stores of Vodafone, Unitymedia, EntertainTV and Amazon Channels.

Cory Hardrict predicts 'The Oath' will be 'one of the big shows of 2018'
We talked with Hardrict about the show. The interview has been condensed and edited.
Q: There is a lot of deception, backstabbing and lies told among characters on the show. Do they have any redeeming qualities?
A: (Laughs) There’s a lot of redeeming qualities — it’s more like a slow burn. It unfolds after Episode 7 — after 7, 8, 9 and 10, you’ll get the first six. There are a lot of great arcs in there; and there are a bunch of great qualities. That’s why Joe Halperin set it up like that — to have everyone asking what you just asked me.
Q: What more can you tell me about the series?
A: What I can tell you is that there’s a bunch of roller coasters and different plot lines that will keep you invested, and the dynamics and the relationships are something special — Sean Bean plays my father, Ryan Kwanten plays my brother, so there are a lot of layers there — there’s a lot of emotional weight coming from that standpoint. There’s a method to the madness and everyone has a purpose for their character and it all ties in to family and one goal, whether it’s good or bad, everyone believes in what they’re doing. Everything is meticulous and calculated and makes sense to them and what they’re doing. I believe it’s going to be one of the big shows of 2018 … I think so, because I’m in it and I’m from Chicago Heights, so …
Q: How was it working with 50 Cent?
A: 50 Cent was great. He’s always cutting edge and trying to tell some dramatic, real powerful stories. He’s getting behind great TV shows, like he did with the creation of “Power,” so hopefully that can bleed over into “The Oath.”
Q: What led you to the project?
A: I play the adopted son, brother of the show. My back story was, my parents got rid of me, so I didn’t feel like I was loved, I didn’t have any family who cared about me, so I kind of hold that dear to me throughout the show. I’m real intense. I’m real emotional. I’m hiding a lot of pain from my life experiences and when I read it, it kind of clicked with me because everybody needs love in their life. I thought this could be something cool. So I am this cop who would do anything to help the fam — the Ravens, because we’ve all sworn in to this oath, this secret society and we won’t do anything to break it. We’re all like a family as well — this cop gang — and we all have our own individual families; it’s all based on family and relationships and that really stuck out to me when I read it. I think it’s going to resonate with people. I don’t really do TV, but this was something that felt like 10 movies to me and something that I felt was real, so I was all in.

AP: This is another tightly wound, sinister character. What attracts you to them?
B: I guess when your character is in darkness or is very cerebral and contained, you don't have to learn as many lines. (Laughs.) You just do it with facial expression. They do actually tend to be men-of-not-many words sort of characters — I quite like that. I don't like saying too much.
Q: The series is shot in Puerto Rico and had to contend with Hurricane Maria in September. The cast and crew returned to finish filming after that monster storm. Was it hard?
A: I was there for the first few weeks. I'd finished my scenes by, I suppose, July, something like that. I'd been gone about three weeks when I started picking it up on the news report. I know it gets storms in that part of the world but I never thought it would be as bad as that. I thought about the people there who welcomed us with open arms. They're very friendly and hardworking people ...
Q: Is there a second season in the works and are you a part of it?
A: Well, I don't die in it. Well, maybe I shouldn't tell you. You know, everyone expects me to die, don't they? I think there's talk of it. I think they're seeing how it goes down and see what the reaction is.

The Oath is Crackle's original new production , Sony's on-demand subscription service. The series explores the secret world of police gangs that operate on both sides of the law. Last Friday (04/04), the opening day of the first three chapters, Rio 2C featured a panel that was attended by Sony Entertainment EVP, TC Schultz , who spoke about the platform's editorial line and plans for to Latin America. Also present was actor Ryan Kwanten , who plays the protagonist Steve Hammond.
On working with Sean Bean (The Lord of the Rings Boromir), Ryan said, "He's a cool guy, but you give him a script and he turns into a monster."

“The Oath,” the L.A.-set crime drama from executive producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, is returning for a second season on Sony’s Crackle streaming network.
According to Sony, “The Oath” season 1 — which premiered March 8 with the bingeable release of all 10 episodes — has been Crackle’s most-watched original series ever and currently has the highest viewer-retention rate. Sony didn’t release specific metrics, however.

Crackle has renewed the freshman drama, which debuted last month and has become the network’s most-watched new original series. The news was announced during the Sony Pictures Television Network streaming service's upfront presentation at Sony Headquarters in New York.
The gritty, action-packed drama starring Sean Bean comes from executive producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and creator Joe Halpin, a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputy in South Central for 17 years, 12 of which as an undercover officer. The series takes an unforgiving look at the complicated dynamics in these organizations and documents the lives of those willing to risk it all, to have it all.
By exploring a world of gangs made up of those sworn to protect and defend, The Oath sheds light on corrupt and secret societies that are nearly impossible to join — only a select few make the cut—but once inside, members will do what they must to protect each other from enemies on the outside and from within their own ranks.

‘The Oath’: Christina Milian Cast As Series Regular; Leona Lewis & Zulay Henao To Recur In Sony Crackle Drama
EXCLUSIVE: Christina Milian has been cast as a series regular on the sophomore season of The Oath, Sony Crackle’s gritty drama from executive producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. Leona Lewis and Zulay Henao will recur during Season 2.
Kevin Connolly will guest star on the series and direct multiple episode of Season 2, which has begun production in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Created by Joe Halpin, The Oath explores a world of gangs made up of those sworn to protect and defend and sheds light on corrupt and secret societies that are nearly impossible to join. Only a select few make the cut — but once inside, members will do what they must to protect each other from enemies on the outside and from within their own ranks. Season 2, which was ordered in April, finds the Ravens trying to free themselves from their debt to the cartel. The season will examine themes of family and redemption, giving the characters a chance to reclaim their lives as their own, pushing them to find a new path and attempting to conquer their inner demons – all while trying to protect their own lives in the process.
Milian will play Christine Parks, a second-generation Raven — her father was one of the gang’s founders — and partner of Kraley (Andrew Howard). She grew up admiring her dad and wants to follow in his footsteps. The actress, whose credits include Grandfathered and East Los High., is repped by WME, Link Entertainment, Milian Management and Stone, Genow.
Lewis recurs as Amber Hall, daughter of Pastor Greg, who grew up surrounded by the violence in her neighborhood. She now works as a doctor at the local hospital, doing what she can for those in the community that look up to both her and her father. Leona, who won Season 3 of The X Factor in the UK and has appeared on Britain’s Got Talent, is represented by CAA.
Henao will recur as Carmen Velasquez, the older sister of Ricardo and daughter of Ignacio who, after living most of her life surrounded by violence, is trying to move the family toward a legitimate business. Henao, who was a regular on OWN’s Tyler Perry drama If Loving You Is Wrong, is repped by APA, John Carrabino Management, APA and Stone, Genow.
Connolly (Pitch, Entourage) will guest as James Hoke, a former radio car partner to Karen Beach (Katrina Law) who now works in Internal Affairs and brings some troubling news to her and the Ravens’ attention.
Cast members also returning for Season 2 of Sony Pictures TV’s The Oath include Howard, Law, Ryan Kwanten — who’s also a producer — Cory Hardict, J.J. Soria, Elisabeth Röhm, Michael Malarkey, Isaac Keys, Kim Delaney, LaToya Tonodeo and Braulio Castillo. I'm starting to wonder if SEAN is going to be in season 2 of the OATH. People did see him on a plane going to NEW YORK about 2 weeks ago. I thought he was
going there to talk about his character TOM for this season, but maybe it was for another role that we don't know about YET !! After all he just won BEST ACTOR
at the BAFTA'S so he could be looking at BETTER PARTS in movies or TELEVISION. Time will tell.

He probably just has a small role again like in season 1.
At least a guest appearance... His character is alive, and pretty crucial to the plot so I can't see them just leaving him out completely.
If it is a smaller role, he can move on to new projects. Better projects. Season 1 was a fun watch, but it wasn't anything outstanding (like Broken, or Frankenstein Chronicles, Accused, etc.). I will stop watching once his involvement is done though. There were a few pretty bad performances in the show that I just couldn't stand (Katrina Law, Elisabeth Rohm)

Dilshad Vadsaria (Revenge, Second Chance), Sebastian Zurita (Todo Mal, Si Yo Fuera Tu), Erik King (Dexter, Oz), J. Anthony Pena (Unsolved: The Murders of Tupac and the Notorious B.I.G, Lucifer), Richard Burgi (Desperate Housewives, General Hospital) Rich Paul (Cut Throat City, The Long Shadow) and Carlos Sanz (Stronger) are set for recurring roles on the second season of The Oath, Sony Crackle’s gritty drama from executive producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson.
They join the previously announced cast for season two, which includes new series regular Christina Milian, and Leona Lewis and Zulay Henao who will recur, along with returning cast Ryan Kwanten – who’s also a producer – Cory Hardrict, Katrina Law and J.J. Soria.

Vadsaria plays Anaya Gil, who runs the U.S. faction of the Indo-Canadian Organized Crime. With her lieutenant Rajiv, her crime ring specializes in the theft and sale of luxury cars. Anaya runs her business professionally, is loyal to her friends, and expects the same from her partners. She cares about her business and her people, willing to do whatever it takes to keep them safe. She’s repped by Luber Roklin Entertainment and Innovative Artists.
Zurita is Ricardo Velasquez, the only son of Ignacio, who was raised in the shadow of his father. Ruthless to an extreme, and quick to anger. Ricardo has a contentious relationship with the rest of his family, in part because of the favoritism his father shows to Carmen, his sister. Envious, and eager to prove his worth, his thirst for power will lead him to decisions that he may come to regret. Zurita is repped by CAA and John Carrabino Management.
King is Pastor Greg, Amber’s father, and a self-reformed man who plans on helping those in the neighborhood still in the life. Growing up in a family of gangbangers, he followed the tradition. But after losing his brother to gang violence, he decided to use his street knowledge to help the community instead. As a Pastor, Cole approaches him to organize events for the Ravens. Good PR to keep the public opinion on the gang’s side, and keep them out of another RICO case. As the violence escalates he’ll try his hardest to maintain the peace, and mentor Cole on the importance of helping the community. King is repped by Gersh and The Burstein Company.
Pena plays Carl Ortiz, a current cop gang member and owner of the bar the Ravens frequent. Pena returns this season and becomes a major player in the gangs’ effort to break free from the Cartels grip and go legitimate. Pena is repped by Mogan Entertainment.
Burgi plays Nathan Andrews, a stone cold DEA agent. Calculating, Andrews is well aware of the corruption that a job like his can breed, and to a degree, he’s sympathetic to those who fall to it. He’s made it his mission in life to take down all the cartels no matter the consequences. Burgi is repped by Leslie Allan-Rice Management and Innovative Artists.
Paul is Eli Briggs, the leader of a ruthless cop gang named the Horsemen. Eli’s character plays an integral part in creating havoc for the Ravens as they struggle to survive in the cop gang world.
Paul is repped by Nick Terry at Zero Gravity Management.
Carlos Sanz is Ignacio Velasquez, a leader of the Costa Oeste Cartel. Father of Jorge and Carmen, and a ruthless leader, he built his empire from the ground up. He has an old school mentality when it comes to loyalty and rules with an iron fist. A legend in Colombia for helping his people and is considered a benefactor to his community. Equally feared and loved, he is about to learn the true meeting of loyalty. Sanz is represented by Lighthouse Entertainment and Amsel, Eisenstadt , Frazier & Hinojosa Talent Agency (AEFH).
The Oath is executive produced by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and his G-Unit Film & Television Inc., Dennis Kim, Todd Hoffman, Anne Clements, and Joe Halpin who is also creator, writer and showrunner. Kwanten and Frances Lausell return as producers along with co-executive producer Jeff T. Thomas.

The series "The Oath", with Sean Bean, will arrive in Portugal on the AXN channel.
The series will debut on December 2 at 11:55 PM on AXN. This new police thriller, originally part of the Crackle streaming service owned by Sony Pictures Entertainment, with the story of Tom Hammond (played by the British actor) being a hard cop who nevertheless leads a double life as the leader of a gang of police crooks.
This story explores the world of a group of elite gang members. Those who have vowed to defend the law and order end up entering secret societies where corruption reigns. These groups are known to be virtually impossible to enter, but once they achieve the mission it is to do everything possible to protect each other from both external and internal enemies.

‘The Oath’ Trailer: Will Outlaw Ravens Gang Fly The Cartel Coop In Season Two?
Sony Crackle has dropped the official trailer for the upcoming Season 2 of The Oath, the cops-and-cartel action series starring Ryan Kwanten, Cory Hardrict and Katrina Law.
The eight all-new episodes will be available on the streaming service Thursday, Feb. 21 (with a sneak peek on Amazon devices through the Sony Crackle app starting Monday, Feb. 11).
“What keeps the Ravens together may tear them apart,” crows the trailer, giving a hint of what’s in store for the outlaw cop gang in the new season.
The logline: “The sophomore season of the action-packed drama finds the Ravens attempting to free themselves from their debt to the cartel. Themes including redemption and the meaning of family are examined in season two pushing the characters to find a new path, conquer their inner demons and giving them one last chance to reclaim their lives as their own – all while trying to protect the ones they love in the process.”
The Oath stars True Blood‘s Kwanten (also a producer), Cory Hardrict (American Sniper), Katrina Law (Training Day), along with Christina Milian, J.J. Soria, Leona Lewis and Kevin Connolly (the former Entourage actor also directs).
Executive producing the original drama series are Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and his G-Unit Film and Television Inc., and creator/writer Joe Halpin.
Season 2 of The Oath launches Thursday, Feb. 21 on Sony Crackle. Check out the new trailer above.

The clandestine power struggles of The Oath proved to be a proverbial Game of Thrones, which made the show a perfect platform for Season 1 star Sean Bean, who (SPOILER ALERT!) didn’t die on the series! – We kid you not! No beheadings, death by a thousand arrows or fatal, Wile E. Coyote-esque, plunges onto giant satellite dishes!

Viacom-Owned Channel 5 Picks Up UK Rights To Sony’s Crackle Gang Drama ‘The Oath’
Viacom-owned British broadcaster Channel 5 has picked up the UK rights to Sony Pictures Television’s Crackle drama The Oath.
The network will launch the 50 Cent-exec produced drama on its digital service My5 as part of a strategy of bolstering the VOD platform with first-run exclusives.
The Oath, which has been renewed for a second season by Crackle, was created by Joe Halpin (Hawaii Five-0) and explores a world of gangs made up of those sworn to protect and defend. It sheds light on corrupt and secret societies that are nearly impossible to join—only a select few make the cut—but once inside, members will do what they must to protect each other from enemies on the outside and from within their own ranks.
It stars Sean Bean, Ryan Kwanten, also a producer, Cory Hardrict, Katrina Law, Arlen Escarpeta and J.J. Soria. Rounding out the ensemble cast are: Elisabeth Röhm, Michael Malarkey, Eve Mauro, Kwame Patterson and Linda Purl.
The Oath is executive produced by Curtis Jackson and his G-Unit Film & Television Inc., Dennis Kim, Todd Hoffman, Anne Clements, and Halpin who also serves as showrunner.
It comes after My5 bought Sony Pictures Television’s Australian drama Bloom, a six-part mystery drama starring Bryan Brown and Jacki Weaver. The series is produced by Sony’s Playmaker Media for digital platform Stan.
Both shows will air later this spring.
James Tatam, VP of Commercial, Digital & Operations, Channel 5 said, “We know that high quality drama drives VOD viewing and loyalty so it’s an important part of our acquisitions strategy as we scale up the platform.
