This was just posted on a sweepstakes site that I belong to.  For those of you in the United States, 18 years and older, you can enter this sweepstakes for a chance to win a Red Riding Trilogy prize pack; includes run-of-engagement pass in Los Angeles, CA (transportation not included).  You do have to register on the Campus Circle site in order to enter their sweepstakes.

I saw the first one with my niece who is a video editor.  She loved the creativity of the director of photography on the film.  The story itself was quite haunting and it still gives us both the shivers when we think of it, especially how menacing Sean's Dawson character was.  He definitely needed to cut loose after a day on that set like he said he did.  I still haven't been able to force myself to watch the second and third films, even tho the fist one was so well made.  The odd thing is that there is violence, but nothing out of the ordinary for crime flicks being made in this day and age, but the underlying threat of violence and evil and  how people use it is simply disturbing.

Another review.  This one is not as complimentary as some of the others.

Sean effortlessly inhabits the character of Dawson whose black wit and sexual charm dominate the film.

Don't hold your breath.  Its going to be a complete Americanization of the series, like what they did to Death At A Funeral.  Altho, Peter Dinklage did play the same character in both the British and the American versions.  Sean could easily do it, but he'd have to ditch the Yorkshire dialect.

Here is a giveaway to win the book  Occupied City, by David Peace (author of the Red Riding Quartet), plus a Red Riding movie poster.  And 4 runners-up will receive the RR movie poster.  It doesn't specify if this giveaway is just for the US or not.

while Sean Bean is doing his typical Sean Bean thing — menacing, vaguely paternal — it's still superb acting and the best he's been in years. http://theplaylist.blogspot.com/2010/02/red-riding-1974-review-if-james-ellroy.html

the machinations of real estate developer John Dawson (an oily and terrifying Sean Bean).

Sean Bean is also very good as an unsavory character named John Dawson.

Good Grief . . . I really, REALLY hope they do Game of Thrones.  And that it is a rousing success and gets all kinds of press.  I dearly want to see reviews of Sean's performance that do NOT include words like 'unsavory', 'oily', 'terrifying', 'nefarious', 'menacing' or 'sleazy'.

I know that they are complimenting his portrayal of a disgusting character - I'd just love to see him be complimented for portraying someone you wouldn't mind having over for dinner . . .

*sigh*

Thank you, patch, for posting all these reviews!
