World Cup Football 2010
« on: June 14, 2010, 08:25:26 AM »
The Dutch team won their first game against Denmark 2-0.
It wasn't a great game but it's a result.

NL is still one of my favourites. The first game wasn't that great, but the win was deserved over all and I'm sure these guys will increase their perfomance in the course of the World Cup!

Seems that the favourite teams have to contend against initial difficulties. But there is still a long way to go!

Not a very good day for England and Germany - but we haven't seen the end of the matter!! Both teams have a last chance to reach the last sixteen round...blah-blah...rofl! *sigh*

Congrats to the USA ( :hellyeah2:) and  - because I'm a kind person -  to Algeria and Serbia! *slightly cought*

I've been trying figure out why England can't seem to pull it together - the only thing I can think of is that it's a combination of intense club rivalry (which all nations have) combined with less of a sense of nationalism than other nations.  Football is England's national sport, but in many other nations it's almost the national religion.

US has similar issues, although they at least can look forward to the sport growing - but we have commentators in this country who actually equate 'soccer' with socialism (seriously.  They do.) and consider it 'furrin' and 'unpatriotic'.  Makes me wish I could ask for asylum in the UK . . .

In any case - today England was absolutely DIRE.  Pathetic, in fact.  They drew on luck alone.   :frustrate:  The US may not have won on a bad call, but the only reason they drew was because the Slovenians let their guard down (that and they don't seem very fit!) - I'm not handing the US a laurel wreath for today's match.

My congrats to Holland!

1:0 against Japan! Group winner at the moment.  :snoopy:

@ Patch: What about a final Netherland-Germany? *gg* I suppose that's the most wanted final in Germany and the NL. lol - A 1974 revival/revenge.  :mutley:
