Hollywood Comes To Handsworth
Hollywood film star Sean Bean has come onto the Board of Directors at KoolSport NCEL Division One newcomers Handsworth.

The 51-year-old, who has starred in movies such as Lord of the Rings and GoldenEye, was born in the Sheffield suburb and has been a long-time supporter of the club.

Although a busy work schedule means his attendance at matches will be limited, he will be lending his support to the club's development as it looks to continue its rise up the National League System.

And, he will be in contact with the club throughout the season wherever his career takes him.

Hardly.  This is a club so far down in the various divisions that I'm not certain it ranks as even semi-pro.

It's a way for him to be involved in footie, since his rather extensive stint on the SU board came to an ignominious end.  Cheaper than buying into a top tier club, too (I expect).

Good for him.  A small club can do a lot with a little capital and he can feel like he's really making a difference.

Formed in 2003 from Handsworth Junior Sporting Club’s academy, Handsworth FC have progressed through the Sheffield & Hallamshire County Senior Leagues, and have now joined the Koolsport Northern Counties East League Division One. Ground improvements to compete at this level were required, a pay booth has been introduced and hard standing on three sides included as a start, but the club have ambitious plans to build changing facilities closer to the pitch and seat some of the covered standing area. To help finance these improvements, the club are constantly on the lookout for new sponsors, one who has always supported the club from the beginning is local boy Sean Bean who may be better known as a Sheffield United fan

Many footie fans support more than 1 club.  Usually a small local one and a 'big' one.

Whilst they'll follow the big one avidly they'll probably be constrained by cost from seeing a lot of the team.  Some teams will charge from £50 sterling upwards and there's transport costs on top of that.  More often than not the big team is supported via TV and radio whilst the small team is the one where they turn up on a Saturday afternoon.
