I wish someone had done this for LOTR.  It will be interesting to see Richard Armitage as he breaks out of the UK and explodes across the world as the fantastic actor that he is.

I'm really pleased for Richard as I think he's done so much on British TV that it's about time he had a chance to achieve something internationally.  Oh and I'm also glad for one of the other English actors - the ginger one - who got killed off in Eastenders. Nice to see he's got some work.

If they use makeup for the dwarves as they did in LOTR, we won'r recognize RA at all unfortunately.

I refuse to believe that somebody would hire Richard Armitage and then make that beautiful face unrecognizable - it would be stupidity of the highest order. They've already omitted all the best looking men from LOTR from this new film as it is.

Peter Jackson provides update on The Hobbit filming

Quote
The worst case of this came during The Fellowship of the Ring, when we revised Boromir's long speech about Mordor at the last minute and only got it to Sean Bean on the day it was being shot. Sean handled it very cleverly—if you look at the movie, you'll see he occasionally has his head bowed, as if dealing with the emotional weight of the horrors of Mordor. In actual fact, the new script page had been taped to his knee! By the time we were done with several takes and a few different camera angles, Sean had the speech down pat, and it was mainly those takes that were used in the final cut.

So this is a trailer for a movie that will be out next December.  Guess there is still a lot of CGI type work to be done.  It has been 40 years since I read that book and obviously from the trailer I do not remember much of the book.  Guess I better put this on my reading list before I see the movie.  Thanks for the post Patch.  It does look very interesting.

I finally broke down and watched the trailer for The Hobbit. Now I'm sort of looking forward to it. I most likely will not see it in the theater. I just don't have the tolerance for other people anymore. Thorin is kinda of hot. That's Richard Armitage, right? the dude from Robin Hood the TV series on BBC America. I could only picture Dwarves looking like the Rankin Bass cartoon of The Hobbit and that's just not a pretty sight. I don't think I would have tried to see the film at all if they looked like that. I need eye candy.

Richard Armitage is properly heroic as Thorin, the heir to the dwarf throne. But frankly, he's no Sean Bean

I could have told them that.
