Taking on a role Brendan 'George of the Jungle' Fraser walked away from? Excuse me if I do not jump with joy and enthusiasm.
Apparently, Fraser walked away because of differences in opinion with the director. What that means is open to speculation, but given his rather limited artistic scope, it might be because the director was asking him to do something that he wasn't capable of doing (acting, for example).
This could be complete hash - if it is, it won't go beyond the pilot. Seems like most shows don't. The plot of the book is interesting, though. It's not just the story of a guy who can pretend to be other people - more the story of how years of pretending to be other people impacts the guy, while he is still using the skills to do his job.
Depending on how they wrote the script, it could be good.
Or not.
Hopefully, they didn't get the author to write the script; the excerpt I read last night was four pages long . . . mostly because there was two pages of long-winded and unnecessary description of everything from the smoke rising above a factory to the outfit the guards were wearing. People didn't "take off their shoes and socks" and then "put them on again" . . . they took off their shoes and socks and rolled up the legs of their jeans - then they put on their shoes and socks and rolled the legs of their jeans down.
yeesh. I'm all for creating a mental image, but this guy is over the top!
The story, though, was interesting in the brief bit I saw. Enough so that I'll get the book and read it through - though I'll probably practice selective editing and skip the long-winded descriptions.
