TV Star Profile: Sean Bean from ‘Legends’

Quote
English actor Sean Bean has had experience working on theater, film and television. He has done voice acting too. A graduate of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in the 1980s, his career has had a string of notable performances. He currently stars in the TNT action series “Legends,” where his skills as a thespian playing different characters shine through. Read on for more about the actor.

It’s not the first time for Bean to star in a television show. In fact, it was through television that he became well-known, starring in the ITV series “Sharpe,” which aired in Great Britain in 1990s. But his role on HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” while short-lived, has made Bean more recognizable among TV fans worldwide.

In an AMA (Ask Me Anything) session with fans on Reddit, Bean said that he learned of “Legends” through his agents who told him that Howard Gordon, the producer of the show who has also created hit series like “Homeland” and “24,” would like to talk to him about the part. The actor immediately said yes when he learned of the premise and the multiple identities that his character, Martin Odum, would have. Bean said that he found the project fascinating, more so because he would get to play various parts. Bean has played both star and villain in various projects, and for Martin Odum on “Legends” he gets to be both.

“I think villains are kind of the more juicy parts, you can kind of get away with murder (literally) but it’s been fun playing Martin in LEGENDS because he’s a bit of both really. He uses quite brutal methods to achieve his aims, but he’s a good guy,” said Bean in the AMA session.

The actor also confirmed that his character doesn’t die on the show, alluding to the fact that in many of the projects he’s done, either in movies or TV series, he would almost always ended up dead.

While the chances of the show’s renewal is still uncertain, as there are still a few episodes left to the first season, Bean hopes that “Legends” becomes “ongoing.”

In the same AMA, Bean also talked about doing a movie with Nicholas Cage, his relationship with the cast of “Lord of the Rings” and working on “Game of Thrones.” He surprisingly also talked about food a lot, much to the delight of his fans, who couldn’t believe that the award-winning actor is such a foodie at heart.

And that’s it for a peek into Sean Bean, the star of “Legends,” which airs Wednesday nights on TNT. Check out a video of the actor in a candid interview with Entertainment Weekly. We do the recaps of the show here on Movie News Guide (MNG), so keep checking back.
