Clever Promo Video and Poster for 'The Martian' Introduces Matt Damon and the Crew

Meanwhile, producer Simon Kinberg has revealed on Twitter a brilliant poster diagramming mission to save Watney while also showing off the film's incredible supporting cast that includes Chiwetel Ejiofor, Kristen Wiig, Mackenzie Davis, Sean Bean, Donald Glover, and Jeff Daniels. Very cool, and as someone who is right smack in the middle of reading the book all of this gets me very excited for the film which opens on November 20th.

  The first trailer for Ridley Scott’s The Martian landed today, giving a tantalizing first look at the film, which sees Matt Damon’s interstellar botanist stranded amongst the stars when his shipmates leave him for dead. To provide a little insight as to what's the finished film has in store, Scott himself talks us through some of the trailer’s key moments. If you haven’t read the book then some potential spoilers await.

'The Martian' moves to an Oct. 2 release date

Good news for The Martian fans: you won’t have to wait quite as long to see the Ridley Scott sci-fi space adventure starring Matt Damon, as the film has been moved from its originally scheduled Nov. 25 date to Oct. 2.

 The first trailer for the film debuted earlier this week and was greeted with lots of buzzy fanfare online. Sources close to the production say that date change is due in part to the studio’s confidence in the film. The first weekend in October has certainly been a lucky one over the past couple of years—that’s when both Gravity and Gone Girl premiered.

Jimmy Kimmel's Spoof of The Martian Trailer Skewers Matt Damon

The first trailer for The Martian came out this week, and it has everyone abuzz with excitement. Everyone, that is, except for Jimmy Kimmel, who made his own version of the trailer for the sole purpose of poking fun at Matt Damon:
 First, Kimmel rightly makes fun of Matt Damon's annoying, purposeless role in Interstellar, saying the Martian marks "the second time Matt Damon plays a guy who gets stranded in space."

"When Ben Affleck goes into space, he's blowing up a meteor to preserve the human race! Matt Damon goes up there, he gets lost and has to be saved!"


Then the actual spoof trailer plays, and it's pretty much just one crude joke. Called, Mastronaut: Emission to Mars, this version is a romantic comedy rather than a sci-fi epic, in which Matt Damon finds love in space with himself.

The Martian, Ridley Scott's new sci-fi adventure starring Matt Damon, is landing in cinemas at the start of October. Inside the new issue of Total Film magazine, there's a set visit to Mars (well, the gigantic Budapest soundstage that doubled for the Red Planet), with the magazine's intrepid reporter touching down just as a furious dust storm hits. To get a taste of what to expect, check out the two exclusive images above.

With the action switching between Damon flying solo, the rest of his crew in the shuttle (Jessica Chastain, Kate Mara, Sebastian Stan, Michael Peña, Aksel Hennie) and the NASA bods in Houston (Jeff Daniels, Kristen Wiig, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Sean Bean), this is far more than the 'Robinson Crusoe on Mars' it's been tagged as.

I know I already said 5 twice but between them I cannot decide.

During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive.

Matt Damon stars with the lead role of Mark Watney. With supporting actors Kata Mara (House of Cards), Michael Pena (Shooter), Chiwetel Ejiofer (12 Years A Slave), Sebastian Stan (Captain America: The Winter Soldier), Sean Bean (Lord of the Rings), Jessica Chastain (Interstellar) and Kristen Wiig (Despicable Me 2).

With Director Ridley Scott (American Gangster, Black Hawk Down, Gladiator, Blade Runner) and writer Drew Goddard (Daredevil TV Series, Lost and Cloverfield) this movie was put into great hands to make. It is a definite award winner.

Character Analysis  Mitch Henderson The Martian book.

Mitch Henderson is the closest thing The Martian has to Han Solo. While Teddy and Venkat tend to play it safe, Mitch is bold and brash in the pursuit of what he believes is right. You might dislike his methods, but you can't argue with the results.

Even if you like Mitch, you have to agree with Teddy that the guy can be "a pain in the ass" at times (19.60). The guy is passionate about his work and blunt with his opinions, which is great for getting things done, but less great for creating a good work environment.

The dispute between Teddy and Mitch carries throughout the novel. Mitch frequently accuses Teddy of being "'on damage control'" and "'hanging [Mark] out to dry'" in an extremely hostile manner (16.196, 200). Though it's hard to disagree with what he says, there are much better ways to make these opinions known. On the other hand, maybe that's the only way things get done in a big organization like NASA. After all, Hermes only returns to Mars because Mitch goes behind Teddy's back to send them the Purnell Maneuver.

In the end, it becomes clear that Mitch fights so hard because he is the one in charge of the Ares 3 mission. Teddy and Venkat feel bad about what happened, of course, but Mitch feels responsible. When you combine these feelings with Mitch's natural bone-headedness, then can best believe you'll end up with a few cracked skulls

Actually sounds like a very nice supporting role. Hopefully his presence remains consistent through the film unlike Jupiter Ascending where his character becomes nothing after they leave the barn.

I am very much looking forward to this film. It will probably be the only Bean film this year that will garner both critical and commercial success!

On a side note - Mitch Henderson being compared to Han Solo, Stinger was also compared to Han Solo, put these together and come on... SEAN BEAN FOR STAR WARS
