I like his haircut - but the colour is too dark for him.

The color is indeed so wrong for him - totally washes him out...

I don't know much about hair dyes: Is it true that if you have gray hair, it's hard to dye it blonde because it turns brassy instead or is that if you are trying for red? I am truly asking because I am clueless.

But, seriously I would think if he was going to bother with the dye, he would pay a premium for it to get it done well (meaning blondish of course).
