Possessor director Brandon Cronenberg talks creating one of 2020's most disturbing films
EXCLUSIVE: Director Brandon Cronenberg discusses his disturbing science-fiction horror Possessor starring Andrea Riseborough, Christopher Abbott, and Sean Bean
As with many film releases this year, the release of Possessor has been affected by the coronavirus pandemic, with its UK release now solely on digital.
"I don't feel like I'm releasing a film in a sense," explains the director, "I'm sitting down at a computer and doing press but I'm not actually travelling with it or being able to interact with audiences.
"It almost feels like a video game about releasing a film that I'm playing on my computer, it's a very strange experience that way."
Despite the unplanned digital release instead of heading to theatres, the director is not displeased.
"I don't really fetishise theatrical in the way some directors day, it's totally okay and probably advisable for people to see this at home," concludes Cronenberg.
"It is a different way to be releasing a film and tracking a film's success."
In the US, Possessor Uncut is the unrated cut of the film that premiered at Sundance Film Festival, but they also had to release an R cut of the film that has been edited for some platforms, which is edited from territory to territory.
Thankfully, the only version being released in the UK and rated 18 will be the entire uncut version.
