Cannes: Sean Bean to Star in Jason Bourque's Action-Thriller 'Drone'

Myriad Pictures is introducing the film to buyers in this week, with deals already closed for the U.K., Italy, the Middle East and the former Yugoslavia.


Sean Bean is set to pilot in Jason Bourque's action thriller film Drone.

Myriad Pictures will handle worldwide sales, excluding Canada, for the film that will co-star Patrick Sabongui (300, Godzilla).

Written by Bourque (Black Fly) and Paul Birkett, Drone is a ripped-from-the headlines story about Neil (Bean), a high-level private drone contractor who spends his workdays flying covert missions then returns to a family life of suburban mediocrity. Not even Neil’s wife or his son know about his secret life. But Neil's juggling act of husband, father and armchair warrior comes to a crashing halt when a whistle-blowing site exposes him to a deadly threat. Believing Neil is responsible for the deaths of his wife and child, an enigmatic Pakistani businessman (Sabongui) has tracked him down. A harrowing confrontation takes place in Neil's house and it proves to be far more complex than a simple act of revenge.

Myriad Pictures is introducing the film to buyers in Cannes this week. Deals have already been closed with Signature Entertainment in the U.K., Minerva in Italy, Eagle Films in the Middle East and Dexin Films in the former Yugoslavia.

The film starts shooting this week in India and then moves to Vancouver.

Pacific Northwest Pictures has Canadian rights and will distribute the film theatrically and in all media there. The film is being produced by Sefton Fincham (Catch .44, A Single Shot) and Ken Frith (Black Fly), and will be produced by Look to the Sky Films and co-produced by Gold Star Productions. The film will be executive produced by Mike Rowe, Levi Sheck, and Media House Capital's Ross Mrazek and Ben Rappaport.

Borque, a hot up-and-coming Canadian helmer, has visited the subject of drones before. He directed the drone-themed documentary Shadow Company, which was narrated by Gerard Butler.

“We think that Sean Bean is the perfect actor for this leading role and that Jason Bourque will do a great job directing this compelling material which ultimately addresses issues of justice and human values around the world,” Myriad president Kirk D’Amico said.
 
 Kevin Forester and Audrey Delaney negotiated the deal on behalf of Myriad. Producer Sefton Fincham repped the filmmakers.

Sean Bean Starring in Drone

Bean will headlining Jason Bourque’s political thriller.

It looks like Sean Bean has come back to life again.

The mighty Bean, who has a notorious history of his character being killed off in many of the TV series and films he has starred in, is being reanimated for the high-suspense thriller, Drone.

Written and directed by Jason Bourque (Black Fly) and co-written by Paul Birkett, Drone hovers over the double life of Neil (Bean), an elite private drone contractor. He flies top-secret missions by day and then returns to his unknowing family under the guise of an average suburbanite. He is able to keep his dual identities under wraps, until his life thrown into major peril after being exposed by a whistleblowing site.

Neil then finds himself stalked by a mysterious and relentless businessman (Patrick Sabongui) who believes the drone operator murdered his wife and child. He follows Neil with what at first seems like a thirst for vengeance, but whose motive has many more facets than just revenge. Expect an explosive confrontation when they finally face each other.

Shooting for Drone will start this week in India and eventually move to Vancouver. Myriad Pictures plans to introduce the film at Cannes this week. This isn’t Borque’s first brush with drones; he previously directed Shadow Company, a documentary on the futuristic flying machines.

The big question, of course, is will Sean Bean survive this one? The odds are rarely that great...

“Drone” Filming Currently Underway In Mumbai, India

Look To the Sky Films upcoming movie “Drone” has officially left Pre-Production and begun filming of controversial opening scenes in Mumbai, India.  Below is a small but hopefully intriguing behind the scenes look at what’s just around the corner.

The locations are overflowing with character and are a perfect match to Karachi.  Overall I’m seeing excellent production value with an authentic cast.  None of the Muslim cast are English speaking so we are working through our cultural advisor and translator.  It is a very unique experience.   – Jason Bourque, Director.

The upcoming political thriller Drone has expanded its ranks, with Mary McCormack and Joel David Moore joining the cast. The Myriad Pictures film stars Sean Bean along with Patrick Sabongui and follows Neil (Bean), a high-level private drone contractor who divides his time between his work flying covert drone missions and suburban family life. His worlds collide when a leak causes a Pakistani businessman (Sabongui) to believe Neil is responsible for the death of his family, sparking a tense confrontation in Neil’s house. McCormack plays Neil’s wife, Ellen, while Moore portrays Neil’s colleague, Gary.

Directed by Jason Bourque from a script he co-wrote with Paul A. Birkett, Drone is currently filming in Vancouver. It’s produced by Sefton Fincham and Ken Frith and co-produced by Matthew Schmidt and Dean Buchanan. Myriad’s Kirk D’Amico and PNP’s Emily Alden executive produce alongside Mike Rowe, Levi Sheck, Media House Capital’s Ross Mrazek and Ben Rappaport.

'Temple', 'Drone', 'The Titan' among Signature's Cannes deals

UK distributor Signature Entertainment has revealed five all rights acquisitions secured at the Cannes Film Festival

A further deal has been done with Myriad Pictures for Jason Bourque’s Drone, which stars Sean Bean (Troy) as an elite drone contractor who is exposed by a whistleblower. It will be released in 2017.

Drone & Death of a Vegas Show Girl Start Filming in Vancouver & British Columbia

This week, indie-feature Drone (aka Incursion) with Sean Bean and Lifetime’s Death of a Vegas Showgirl with Fiona Vroom start filming in Vancouver and British Columbia.

Drone (aka Incursion) (Feature)
Drone, also known as Incursion, is an indie political thriller starring Sean Bean (Lord of the Rings Series). If you’re a Game of Thrones fan, you’ll also know Sean from his portrayal of the beloved Ned Stark. Other notable cast includes Mary McCormack (In Plain Sight), Joel David Moore (Bones, Avatar), Patrick Sabongui (The Flash) and up-and-comer Maxwell Haynes.

Drone was written by Jason Bourque, Ian Birkett, Paul A. Birkett and Roger Patterson for Telefilm and Myriad Pictures. It centres around an unlikely meeting between a military drone contractor and a Pakistani businessman.



Drone will be filming in Vancouver and British Columbia until June 25th.

I always smile when I see Sean wearing a tie. I don't think he likes them very much because even when he starts off with the top button done and the tie cinched up, it seems like always at some point ... he gives it a good yank. It's quite noticeable when you go through photos of the red carpet events he's been photographed at.
