I'm in Strangford village in the square looking over to the Cuan Hotel complex. The Cuan Licensed Guest Inn is a family owned and run hotel located in the beautiful conservation village of Strangford, on the shores of Strangford Lough. It is very much at the hub of community life in the village. It offers a fantastic food experience, available all day, with a passionate commitment to sourcing local seasonal produce. Now the hotel offers even more,- The opportunity to see The Game of Thrones, Series Six, Episode One door and some of the actor's costumes.
The Cuan was selected by Tourism Ireland to be the location of the first ‘Door of Thrones’, due to the hotel's close association with this epic series, when it was being filmed at Winterfell, plus the restaurant's exciting range of Game of Thrones dining experiences. This is a fantastic accolade. This Door of Thrones’ marks Episode 1 of Series 6. The door is made from the timber of the fallen trees of the 'Dark Hedges'.
Game of Thrones at The Cuan
'The Cuan was the cast’s choice for accommodation, food and drink while filming Series 1 & 2 at Winterfell Castle (only 1 mile from The Cuan). Ned Stark (Sean Bean), King Robert, Queen Cerssi, Joffrery, Jon Snow, Catalyn, Ayra and Bran Stark made The Cuan their home over a number of weeks. We got to know their room preferences, favourite foods and special requests for breakfast while quickly becoming intrigued by the storyline of Game of Thrones. Through our connections we got onsite to see the filming of various scenes, in particular the arrival of King Robert and his entourage to Winterfell Castle to ask Ned Stark to be the King’s Hand, we look forward to sharing that story with you.'
