Exciting 1st week for drama dept students at Hope as we co-hosted location shoot of Jimmy McGovern's Broken with Sean Bean @LiverpoolHopeUK
Great day filming with Sean bean. Absolute gent.
Made my day seeing Sean bean 🙌🏾
It was an exciting first week for our Drama students, as they were invited on to the set of screenwriter and producer Jimmy McGovern’s upcoming BBC drama Broken – and they even got a glimpse of award-winning actor Sean Bean. With filming taking place in Saint Francis Xavier’s Church, opposite the University’s Creative Campus, our Drama students were given the opportunity to visit the set and speak to Location and Unit Managers from Liverpool company LA Productions.Location Manager Gary Looker explained to the students his role in the production and the different responsibilities held by each team on set. He also gave the students lots of helpful tips on how to get into the production industry. He said: “You’ve got to engage – get out there and make yourself known. We all worry about failure, but just get out there and learn and you will get there.”Hope’s Head of Drama, Dance and Performance Professor Simon Piasecki also offered his advice to students, telling them: “Never just jump in – be prepared as in this industry, you only really get one shot.”Explaining how the production came to the church, Gary described how narrowed the options down to three, and Jimmy chose Saint Francis Xavier’s as he used to go there as a child. The excitement didn’t end there, as Professor Piasecki was invited to the shoot base in Everton where he met Producer of LA Productions Colin McKeown and Jimmy McGovern himself.Simon said: “Huge thanks to LA Productions for allowing our students to experience life on set, it was very generous and a great opportunity for them to see how everything is done for such a large scale production.”View the photos of the visit on our Flickr gallery.Broken airs on BBC One in Spring 2017.

Meanwhile in County Road, Sean Bean Filming Game of Meffs
Sean Bean was filming his latest TV drama in Liverpool today. The star of Game of Thrones and Sharpe was seen out and about in Bootle with film crews before switching to Toxteth for some night shoots. Star spotters said they had seen the former 006 at the Hawthorne Pub, on Hawthorne Road in Bootle, Black Horse pub on County Road and on nearby Queens Road on the other side of Bootle South Recreation Ground. He then popped up at Upper Stanhope Street.Staff at the Black Horse pub said the Lord of the Rings actor had been filming in their car park up until about 7pm.One of the bar staff said he had stopped to take pictures with the locals before moving on to their next location. It is believed Sean Bean has been filiming a new BBC drama Broken, produced by Jimmy McGovern, which will air in six one-hour episodes and also stars the likes of Paula Malcomson, Aisling Loftus and Adrian Dunbar.
