Okay, it's after Christmas. When do we get to see this? I interpreted this to mean straight after Christmas (wishful thinking) but now I realise it could mean any time between after this Christmas and next Christmas. erghhh

SFX is no stranger to film and TV crews. Last year, the church was used for the filming of Broken, a six-part BBC One drama starring Sean Bean, which is due to be broadcast this spring. Bean plays the part of Fr Michael Kerrigan, parish priest in an urban parish, and Fr Denis was invited to be the religious adviser for the series. “For me as a priest who has worked in parishes up and down Britain, from Edinburgh to Bournemouth, working on Broken has given me fresh hope and encouragement, for it portrays the priest as a fully-earthed human being,” he says. “His awareness of his own vulnerability and heartfelt struggles enables him to bring deep compassion to those whose lives he is privileged to reach out to and touch each day.”Fr Denis adds that during the filming of Broken, the church of St Francis Xavier became a star in its own right, with actors, extras and directors alike saying it “had the ‘Wow!’ factor".

Here’s the first sneak peek of Sean Bean in his new role in which he plays a Catholic priest. The Game of Thrones and Sharpe actor is to star in a new BBC drama written by Jimmy McGovern, creator of Accused and Banished, and will play Father Michael Kerrigan, who’s looking after a Liverpool parish.Described as “modern, maverick and reassuringly flawed”, Father Michael is a confidante and counsellor to a congregation struggling to reconcile its beliefs with the trials and tribulations of daily life.“I was very excited at the prospect of working with Jimmy McGovern again,” said Bean who last worked with McGovern on 2012 BBC series Accused playing a transvestite English teacher. The powerful six part series, also stars Marcella actress Anna Friel as hard-up mum of three, Christina Fitzsimmons, who works at the local betting shop and is pushed to the brink as she struggles to make ends meet.Speaking about her role, Anna, who starred in Jimmy McGovern’s hit series The Street said, “When the chance came up to work on Broken I jumped at it. Sean is a great actor, it’s a typically brave and truthful script from Jimmy and I’m back up North. It’s an important subject and a unique character. I can’t wait.”

A PENSIONER is adjusting to life just inches from stardom after embarking on a new career as a TV and film extra. Reporter Harriet Whitehead caught up with him to discuss the projects he has been working on. FLIRTING with Anna Friel, sharing his love of Strictly Come Dancing with Sean Bean and standing just behind Gary Oldman as he delivers a speech as Winston Churchill are all in a day's work for a great-grandfather who is embarking on a new career as a film and TV extra. The 71-year-old, from Burnley, has filmed a primetime BBC drama about a Catholic priest in a northern parish written by Jimmy McGovern and a film, Darkest Hour, starring Gary Oldman as Winston Churchill, which will come out at the end of the year. Along with hundreds of people from across the country, the Burnley FC fan registered with a casting company in Manchester. He said: "I thought being an extra looked interesting. I always fancied doing something in acting but I am too old to retrain. "I was asked a few questions about what I was looking to do and what my special skills are then they took my measurements and asked if I was willing to go nude. "That was in July but then nothing happened. At the end of August I got a phone call asking if I would be in this series called Broken with Sean Bean and Anna Friel." Mr Howley had to be on set in Liverpool at 5.40am and shot scenes in a supermarket and social club which led to a conversation with Anna Friel. "On the back of my chair there was a lovely coat which I was trying not to sit on. "After the fourth rehearsal they took the coat away. Later I noticed Anna Friel with this coat and she looked at me and said 'I'm really sorry that coat was on the back of your chair'. "I said 'it was such a nice coat I didn't want to sit on it but if I would have known it was yours I would have' and she laughed and said 'behave yourself'. "Waiting for another scene I was talking to someone about Strictly Come Dancing and Sean Bean overheard our conversation and said 'I love Strictly'. "He didn't need to join the conversation so it was a really lovely thing to do."
Our Lady Immaculate choir from Everton & staff member Moira recently featured as extras in a new Jimmy McGovern drama with Sean Bean!!!
Keelan will be joined by fellow Liverpudlian Jimmy McGovern as part of the drama events and screenings at Showcase. The writer and producer will be talking to buyers about Broken (top), his new series. It has Sean Bean playing father Kerrigan, a Catholic priest presiding over an urban parish in northern England. “It’s a state of the nation piece,” Keelan says. “It’s centred around a priest and his parish, and shows the stresses and strains in that precint and has that story of the week element buyers are really looking for.” Anna Friel (Marcella) also stars and is rumoured to be showing up in Liverpool.“It’s political and deals with homophobia, racism and the state of the NHS in the country, but also has a universality.”But does this kind of gritty UK drama sell internationally? “It’s not Sherlock and it’s never going to be, but [McGovern’s] previous shows such as The Accused have done well.”
