Snowpiercer Season 2 Teaser Video Reveals Sean Bean as [Spoiler]
Quote
The following contains spoilers from the Snowpiercer Season 1 finale.

In one of the greatest plot twists ever, Sean Bean — whose TV and film characters have a knack for getting whacked — has been cast as someone who is already dead.

The Game of Thrones alum can be heard and seen in the above Season 2 teaser for TNT’s Snowpiercer, which wrapped its freshman run on Sunday night. As strongly hinted at the close of the post-apocalyptic drama’s Season 1 finale, the titular train’s enigmatic creator, Mr. Wilford, is in fact alive, having cheated death at the time of departure seven years ago by finding refuge aboard Big Alice, a prototype train he had also developed.

Snowpiercer Star Says Things Get a "Lot Weirder" in Season 2
Quote
The first season of Snowpiercer had its season finale earlier this week and brought with it some major reveals, which included the appearance of a second train and actor Sean Bean making his presence known. While fans do know that a second season of the series is on the way, the coronavirus pandemic having shut down productions of nearly all movies and TV shows means we have no idea when that season could head into production, let alone when it could debut. Whenever we might get the continued adventures of the sci-fi series, star Sheila Vand promises that those season finale teases mean things will get even more bizarre in the next season.

"I'm trying to balance exactly what I'm allowed to reveal, because it's always so sticky with these things. But there is this whole other train, so another world kind of clashes with ours," Vand revealed to ComicBook.com. "What I can say is that there's another society of people operating a lot differently than the train from Season One. And what I think I can say is that it gets a lot weirder, that the people on the other train have not necessarily had the resources that we've had to survive, and so what they've gone through is a lot bleaker and it's led to some creepier and stranger things. And I'm into that because I like when the show leans more into the genre side of things. I think people can expect to see a bit more of that, a bit more of the sci-fi element of things, in Season Two."

Snowpiercer's finale sets up what could be a much better second season
Quote
This whole time, we've been led to believe that this train carries all that's left of humanity. The arrival of a second train called Big Alice changes things on an existential level, and then there's another big reveal to grapple with too.

Contrary to what Melanie revealed earlier this season, Mr Wilford is alive, and he's the driving force behind Big Alice. It took seven years for him to catch up with Snowpiercer, and this only happened now because the Great Ark train gradually lost speed with each revolution.

While the man who started this whole thing doesn't appear in the finale, it's now been confirmed that Sean Bean will bring the enigmatic billionaire to life in season two. And his arrival is perhaps the biggest change this show has faced yet.
On the one hand, he and Big Alice represent hope, bringing Snowpiercer the vital resources it needs to replenish supplies and repair the train itself. However, Wilford also brings a refined form of chaos, especially for some of our biggest players. Not only will he likely seek revenge against Melanie, but his established greed for power will also play havoc with Layton's fragile democracy.

Showrunner Graeme Manson discusses the genesis of the game-changing twists and how the show might eventually return to filming.
Quote
I would figure you don't hire Sean Bean just to do a couple of voiceover clips and leave it at that, right?

I did not … who? [Laughs] Yeah.

Why Snowpiercer Can't Survive Mr. Wilford (& Why It Needs Him)
Snowpiercer's billionaire messiah Mr. Wilford arrives in season 2. Here's why the train desperately needs him, even though he might also destroy them.
Quote
Mr. Wilford (Sean Bean) arrives in Snowpiercer season 2 and, even though they need him, the few thousand survivors aboard the Great Ark Train likely can't survive their Messiah's unexpected comeback. Snowpiercer season 1 ended with the shocker that a second train, Big Alice, exists and is controlled by Mr. Wilford, who was thought dead. Big Alice docked with Snowpiercer and shut down both trains so that Wilford can take over his original vehicle. Now, Mr. Wilford's presence will change everything for Snowpiercer, especially Andre Layton (Daveed Diggs) and Melanie Cavill (Jennifer Connelly).

After almost seven years of Melanie posing as Wilford and running Snowpiercer according to the ruthless, class-based rules of the billionaire's "perfect order", her ruse was discovered by Layton and Cavill was deposed. Andre, the former Train Detective, united the Tail section with Third Class and led a revolution that was ultimately successful. Even though he still considers Melanie his enemy, Layton joined forces with her so they could exile the First Class Folger family, who implemented their own coup to take over the train, and the Jackboots, who had their own plans to rule over Snowpiercer. After the revolution was won, Melanie was true to her word and surrendered control of Snowpiercer to Layton. But no sooner did Andre attempt to institute equality among all classes aboard the train and create a representative government, than Big Alice roared into the picture, bringing the threat of Mr. Wilford restoring his original order with him.

The biggest threat Wilford poses is to Melanie Cavill personally and she has good reasons to fear the billionaire. Melanie stole Snowpiercer, which she built, and left Wilford on the frozen tracks of Chicago to die seven years ago. Now that he's back, Wilford will no doubt make Cavill pay for her sins, and this after Melanie had just narrowly escaped a death sentence placed on her by the Folgers. This time, there's no trickery Melanie can pull to keep Wilford from boarding and potentially taking over Snowpiercer. Melanie described Wilford as a man who didn't actually care about saving humanity and that he just wanted to leave a hedonistic life in the Nightcar until Snowpiercer failed. But after seven years, Wilford may have gotten worse than Cavill described him and he could be vengeful towards her. Even worse, Wilford took in Melanie's daughter Alexandra (Rowan Blanchard) and he may have turned the girl against her mother..

But Wilford also threatens Andre Layton's hard-won victory, which cost many lives. Although he'd only been in charge for a few hours, there was already evidence that First and Second Class wouldn't accept Train Equality, especially since Third and the Tail immediately committed crimes like stealing food and squatting in First Class cabins. Wilford also has some diehard loyalists, predominantly Ruth Wardell (Alison Wright), who is the new Head of Hospitality and is a violent Wilford devotee. So, Wilford has plenty of allies aboard Snowpiercer who will look to their returned Messiah to reset his order back to the way it was before Layton's revolution. Snowpiercer could be headed for another civil war, and there's no telling yet who is aboard Big Alice or how many people Mr. Wilford is harboring aboard his second train to fight for him.

However, despite the menace Wilford poses to many aboard Snowpiercer, the train also desperately needs what he has aboard Big Alice, which is a prototype supply train. Snowpiercer experienced multiple catastrophes in season 1, including extinction-level events for all of the cows aboard, as well as bees, woodchips, lethally malfunctioning Drawers, and the train was nearly derailed by mold. Engineer Bennett Knox (Iddo Goldberg) has warned that even though the Engine is Eternal, the equipment is not and seven years of relentless revolutions have already taken a hard toll on the train. There's no telling yet what technology, supplies, or other essentials are aboard Big Alice - but what price will Mr. Wilford demand Snowpiercer pay to access them?

So, while the arrival of Big Alice is actually a boon to many of Snowpiercer's woes, a lot of justified fear surrounds Mr. Wilford himself, especially for Melanie Cavill and Andre Layton. The billionaire changes everything and he could make life aboard Snowpiercer worse than it already was. It's not clear yet how Sean Bean's version of Mr. Wilford will be portrayed but the villain played by Ed Harris in the Snowpiercer movie was a lunatic - and Melanie Cavill didn't paint her ex-boss as the benevolent soul he claimed to be either. Big Alice certainly has all kinds of things the people aboard the 994-car-long Great Ark Train needs but they may not survive Mr. Wilford himself in Snowpiercer season 2.

Snowpiercer season 2: First look at Sean Bean's 'dastardly' Mr. Wilford
See new images from the sci-fi saga ahead of the show's panel at this year's New York Comic Con.

Season 2 will introduce Sean Bean's Mr. Wilford, the engineer who oversaw the construction of Snowpiercer. In season 1, it was revealed that Connelly's hospitality chief Melanie Cavill had left Wilford for dead prior to the start of the train's journey but, in the finale, another train unexpectedly turned up on the icy scene, carrying Bean's character.

"I can just say that Sean Bean’s Wilford is dastardly and fun and very well-dressed," says Manson.

'Snowpiercer' Explained: The Telling Revelations In 'Access Is Power'
Quote
Welcome to Snowpiercer Explained, the next in a long line of explainer columns about our favorite shows. With TNT dropping a new show into the Snowpiercer universe, we’re riding along to help you keep up with the mythology and filmmaking of this post-apocalyptic freight train.

The third Snowpiercer episode, “Access Is Power,” contains some big reveals that will leave fans with plenty to ponder going into the next installment.

This episode also confirms that Mr. Wilford existed before Melanie took over the mantel. It’s unknown whether he’s dead or being kept prisoner somewhere, but Melanie has replaced him, and she uses edited audio recordings of Wilford’s old speeches to create the illusion that he’s still in charge. The voice used also belongs to Sean Bean, who is expected to show up in Season 2. As the weeks go by, Melanie seems at more risk of being exposed, and this episode features a couple of moments that tease her being found out very soon.

Snowpiercer Episode 4 Twist Makes The Movie's Biggest Book Change Better

Snowpiercer's biggest secret is out: Andre Layton (Daveed Diggs) deduced that there's no Mr. Wilford on the train and that Melanie Cavill (Jennifer Connelly) is posing as the mythical billionaire savior. Not only did this discovery end up with tragic consequences for the Train Detective, but it also puts a fascinating new spin on the Snowpiercer TV series' biggest change from the 2013 film directed by Bong Joon-Ho (Parasite) and the graphic novel.

SNOW GOING BACK Snowpiercer season 2: Cast lift lid on ‘wild, alternate dimension’ in new train after Big Alice cliffhanger finale
Quote
With season 2 set to drop early next year, leading man Daveed Diggs has teased fans what lies in store.

Diggs plays Andre Layton, who successfully overthrew Snowpiercer's ruling powers after uniting those living in poverty in the trail and the workers of third class.

However, the dust had barely settled on the civil war when the mysterious Mr Wilford made a surprise arrival in a second, larger train known as Big Alice.

After latching on to Snowpiercer and bringing the train to a halt, Wilford demanded talks with Melanie Cavill (Jennifer Connelly), who had been ruling in his absence, maintaining the facade that he was still alive and onboard after his disappearance.

Season 2 will delve into the society governed by Mr Wilford on Big Alice and Diggs warned audiences they'd be in for a dramatically different world.

"As an actor I’m really jealous of the Big Alice crew in some ways. They’re like, so wild!" he revealed at New York Comic-Con.

"Those characters are like... it is a different world, so when we’ve been living in Snowpiercer for a year and then you come up against Big Alice it feels like an alternate dimension, kind of," he went on.

"The way they dress is slightly different and, it was kind of like you go to a new school and there’s all the cool kids? You’re like ‘Oh man, I don’t know, I’ll never be cool like them.’"

The sentiment was echoed by showrunner Graeme Manson, who hinted at an alotgether different class system aboard Big Alice.

"That’s one of the things we love to do on the show, and that really comes from director Bong [Joon Ho]’s energy," he added.

"How you could open a door and constantly find some amazing set. We love to do that every year and Wilford’s train really gave us that opportunity," he continued.

"But Big Alice is a prototype so it’s not all First Class back there. They have a different society, Wilford has created something else."

Snowpiercer sent fans wild last month with first look pics of Sean Bean as Mr Wilford.

Meanwhile LJ actress Annalise Basso hinted that season 3 is already in the works after some "good news" from show bosses.

A NEW FIGHT FOR THE FUTURE BEGINS IN EXCLUSIVE KEY ART FROM SNOWPIERCER SEASON 2 ON TNT

Quote
Snowpiercer wrapped up its first season back in July with powerful endings and intriguing new beginnings, setting the stage for a blockbuster second season that's been in the works since before the first season premiered. It's a time of fresh upheaval on the train, as new adversaries and new struggles threaten to bring everything the passengers worked for in Season 1 crashing down. Is a new regime on the horizon? We'll have to wait until January to find out, but today we got another peek at what's to come in the form of an exclusive first look at Season 2's key art.

In Season 1, Snowpiercer was all about revolution, about what happened when Layton (Daveed Diggs) was able to use his detective skills to leverage his way out of the tail and begin to affect real change in the rest of the train even as Melanie (Jennifer Connelly) seemed to resist him at every turn. Through a murder mystery, a trial, a dangerous scientific experiment, and many more secrets, Layton and Melanie eventually realized they were actually on the same side, and perhaps the only way for humanity to survive was to break down the illusions of the old order on the train and make way for a new one.

That brings plenty of struggles of its own, as Layton found out just as Season 2 was nearing its end, but reorganizing society onboard humanity's ark train turned out to be the least of his and Melanie's worries. It turns out a second train was out there the whole time, this one under the command of the enigmatic Mr. Wilford himself, played by Sean Bean. As you can see from the exclusive key art below, Wilford's presence, as well as the presence of his train, looms large in Season 2 — and we're not likely to be rid of him anytime soon.

Back in October, ahead of Snowpiercer's New York Comic Con appearance, showrunner Graeme Manson offered SYFY WIRE a tease of what's ahead in the struggle against Wilford, and why it won't just be a rehash of Season 1's battles.

"In the first season, we had not just a war, but a revolution, and it was violent and it carried a lot of those brutal fighting of the film, which I love so much," Manson said. "Wilford's a different kind of foe for Layton. Wilford is underhanded, incredibly charismatic, he has a support on the train already, and he's incredibly strategic. So for Layton, it's a battle of wills and we did set about to create a different kind of war here. A more political war, really." But this new, "more politica war" is not the only struggle onboard Snowpiercer, because no matter who's in charge in the end, people still want to survive to fight another day. That means that as Layton and Wilford are engaged in their struggle for supremacy, Melanie — who's just discovered that her daughter Alexandra (Rowan Blanchard) is still alive and under Wilford's care — will also be hard at work

According to TNT's official synopsis for Season 2, her goal will be to "lead the charge on a shocking new discovery that could change the fate of humanity." What could it be? Does it have anything to do with what she finds outside the train at the end of Season 1? Will she succeed? We'll find out soon enough.

Snowpiercer returns January 25 at 9 p.m. ET on TNT. If you need to catch up before then, you'll definitely have a chance, because January 1 will bring the entire first season of the series to streaming HBO Max.

TNT has decided to renew Snowpiercer for a third season, ahead of the season 2 premiere.

The Snowpiercer series is a post-apocalyptic dystopian thriller that premiered on TNT on May 17, 2020. It is based on both the 2013 South Korean–Czech film of the same name, directed by Bong Joon-ho, and the 1982 French graphic novel Le Transperceneige, from which the film was adapted.

The series, a reboot of the film’s continuity, follows the passengers of the Snowpiercer, a gigantic, perpetually moving train that circles the globe carrying the remnants of humanity seven years after the world becomes a frozen wasteland. The series questions class warfare, social injustice, and the politics of survival.

The cast consists of; Daveed Diggs, Jennifer Connelly, Mickey Sumner, Annalise Basso, Sasha Frolova, Alison Wright, Benjamin Haigh, Roberto Urbina, Katie McGuinness, Susan Park, Lena Hall, Sheila Vand, Sam Otto, Iddo Goldberg, and Jaylin Fletcher. Rowan Blanchard, Steven Ogg, and Sean Bean will also join the main cast in the second season.

Production on the second season began on October 21, 2019 and was originally expected to end on March 20, 2020. In March 2020, production was shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In July 2020, episodes 9 and 10 of season 2 were being filmed.

Snowpiercer season 3 has already started pre-production. Season 2 is set to premiere on January 25, 2021.
