When National Treasure was released in November 2004, it helped to increase the public’s awareness of the National Archives. The story of the good treasure hunter Benjamin Franklin Gates (Nicolas Cage) and his attempts to rescue the Declaration of Independence from the evil treasure hunter Ian Howe (Sean Bean)—by stealing it from the National Archives Rotunda—raised the curiosity of people about whether there really is a treasure map on the back of the Declaration. (There isn’t.)
Tonight, we will present a special screening of the film, and will precede it with fun activities related to the film and the Declaration. Come dressed as your favorite National Treasure or Nicolas Cage character, and you might win a prize!
