Watch for it to ship in North America on January 18. The modestly-made-for-dvd film is getting universal rave reviews and Sean's portrayal of bad boy gangster Marcus Kane is spot on. Those in the know believe it's going to be a cult classic. Be sure to check out all the videos, trailers and still photos at the OFFICIAL SITE. Here's a little taste of Marcus:
In other news, The Red Riding Trilogy is still racking up accolades. Having had a limited cinema release in the US, just as we head into awards season, time will tell if it will garner any nods from the big name awards. If the hype is anything to go by, we may just see the gritty drama steal some Hollywood thunder.
We've got volley fire coming from our British lad as the bumper crop of films he has made over the past two years continue to roll out. Black Death, out on DVD in wide release everywhere but Region 1, has been making lots of waves in the horror/thriller genre with Sean getting loads of kudos from all the major critics. A HUGE shout-out to Harry over at Ain't-It-Cool-News for getting the film noticed which subsequently led to a North American distribution deal. Due in US theaters March 11th.
The Lost Future aired on cable television network SyFy this past November 13. The DVD will be made available in the near future. Watch for the date here on SBO. Also, watch your local listings for rebroadcasts.
Keep a watch on your local theaters and telly listings as we look forward to Soldiers of Fortune, due out February 2. Age of Heroes is out next on March 11 in the UK. Cleanskin is in post-production but has only recently done some extensive reshoots of action scenes, so you'll just have to check back for further developments. And lets not forget the most anticipated television series ever, HBO's Game of Thrones is tentatively set to premiere in April.
Sharpe's Children Foundation and 3/95th Rifles Reenactment Group (Adam Paylor's group) have teamed up to do a march and other activities to benefit the charity. You can read all about the initiative HERE. Even if you can't participate in the activities, you can lend a hand by making a donation at the official Sharpe's Children website or simply text Sharpe to 70303 to donate £3.
Be sure to check the SBO Audio/Video Archives for the latest multimedia downloads of Sean material. He did a lovely little Sharpe vignette for Radio 2's Christmas special: Nine Alternative Lessons and Carols, a collection of nine modern short stories specially written for Christmas and performed by celebrities. There's also quite a few clips from Death Race and some golden oldies that were unearthed during a hard drive cleaning.
SBO has a new Featured Artist for 2011. Sue Richardson is a graphics and fine art artist from the Los Angeles area who does delightfully unique original Sean art. We'll be continuing to add to the collection as she lovingly produces her Sean-inspired works. Be sure to pay a visit to her very own SBO page.
I almost forgot...There's a new Sharpe Compendium companion website, Sharpe Tales, where you willl find a collection of Sharpe fan-fiction that was in great danger of forever disappearing from the web. There's something for every taste, and I do mean every, with more being added continually. If you know of any stories that would be nice to add to the collection, please give us a holler and we'll see that they get put up.
From everyone here at SBO, here's wishing a fantabulous 2011 for Sean and everyone out there. Till next time...Sable
