Work begins on filming for television drama series

FILMING for a Channel 4 serial drama has started on Bootham Lane in Stainforth.
Serial drama Red Riding is an adaptation of three of David Peace's quartet of stories of the same name starring, among others, Warren Clarke, Lesley Sharp, David Morrisey and Sean Bean, who has already been sighted filming on Bootham Lane.
ExecutiADVERTISEMENTve Producer, Andrew Eaton, said: "Red Riding is a gripping drama that takes a look at human nature in a time of uncertainty and a culture that has lost its moral compass. It's a dark and gripping thriller that is not only thought-provoking, but bold and adventurous and we hope will get people talking."
The drama is set in Yorkshire throughout the 70s and 80s, and picks up on elements of fear and distrust at the time of the Ripper murders.
Head of Channel 4 Drama, Liza Marshall, said: "I am very excited that this project has attracted such a high level of acting and directing talent – it promises to be an epic television event."
Red Riding is in production until the end of October and is due to broadcast in January 2009. The series of three 2-hour programmes is made as part of a first-look deal between Channel 4 and Revolution Films, produced in association with Screen Yorkshire and Lip Sync, and is written by Tony Grisoli.
This is the second time in recent years that Stainforth has been chosen as a film location as the BBC programme Faith, about the miners strike of 1984, was filmed in the town.
