Crusoe, the NBC period drama adaptation that was commissioned from UK and Canadian indies, has clocked up presales in more than 40 territories, its distributor Power has announced.

The list of pre-sales includes Australia’s Nine Network, France’s Canal Plus, New Zealand’s TVNZ, Italy’s Rai TV, Spain’s Antena 3, Germany’s Telemunchen and Scandinavian satcaster Viasat Broadcasting.

Further deals have been sealed with Sweden’s TV4, South Africa’s SABC4, NBC Universal channels in Asia and Fox International Channels.

The series is adapted from Daniel Defoe’s classic novel Robinson Crusoe and stars Hollywood regulars Sam Neil and Sean Bean. Newcomer Philip Winchester plays the title role, while Anna Walton (Hellboy 2) plays his wife.

"The success of international pre-sales is a testament to the quality of the show," said Ben Silverman, co-chairman, NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios. Production on Crusoe, going via Power, Muse and Moonlighting, ends this weekend in South Africa.
