A THEATRE group is celebrating its third birthday in style - after actor Sean Bean agreed to become its patron.

Steps Productions, which works with youngsters aged seven to 19, has 45 members from all backgrounds across South Yorkshire.

The Rotherham-based group offers chances for young people to develop performance skills in acting, singing and dancing, as well as improving their self confidence, self esteem, teamwork and communication.

Sheffield-born film star Bean has agreed to give the group his backing after being impressed with the quality of its work and its commitment to providing opportunities for all.

Heather Jenkinson, company secretary, said rehearsals were under way for group’s next production, Seussical The Musical, at the Rotherham Civic in June.

She said: “We were hoping Sean would be able to attend our third anniversary party, but he was busy filming. However, he is keen to come to the show in June.”
