OFFICIAL GAME OF THRONES CON BETS ON 2022 VEGAS DEBUT
Game of Thrones’ finale didn’t mean the end of the franchise’s time on HBO. It was just the start. The network is set to launch its first spinoff series, House of the Dragon, next year. And the network already has a litany of other projects from George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire under development. What is dead may never die, indeed. But soon, the small screen won’t be the only place fans of Westeros will be able to get their Seven Kingdoms fix. Warner Bros. and HBO have announced their first official Game of Thrones convention. And fittingly, this big bet is coming to Las Vegas in 2022.
Next February, the Game of Thrones Official Fan Convention will kick off its inaugural event at the Rio Hotel & Suites Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Running for three days, from February 18-20, the con is a joint venture between Warner Bros. Themed Entertainment and Creation Entertainment. The official press release for the event says it’s “in anticipation of the upcoming new HBO series House of the Dragon.” Further evidence that when the show debuts next year, it will air in the spring. That’s when Game of Thrones typically premiered new seasons.
Game of Thrones conventions are not new. Unofficial ones, including Con of Thrones, have hosted successful celebrations. But with the full backing of HBO and Warner Bros. behind this con, attendees will likely expect an even bigger event with even more famous faces. Here’s what the convention is promising guests expect when they arrive.
”Fans of the franchise can expect an action-packed experience with three days of programming featuring special guests, panel discussions, cosplay and trivia competitions, autograph signing sessions, photo opportunities, sales of exclusive Game of Thrones merchandise and more.”
The full schedule, as well as ticket pricing and on-sale dates, will be available “in the coming months.” You can sign up here to get all the updates. Hopefully, those updates will include other spinoff ideas HBO is working on. However, by February 2022, a single Game of Thrones convention might not be enough to handle all those shows.
