Chris Wilder sends warning to Sheffield United board
Quote
Relegation looks a certainty for Sheffield United but it seems as though Chris Wilder is set to stay on as boss next year, assuming the board grant him this request.

Sheffield United have 14 points from 27 games and sit 12 points from safety. Therefore, it’s fair to say that relegation is all but confirmed this season. But Chris Wilder’s message to the board would imply that he plans to stick around next campaign.

That is if they do as he asks. Wilder has noted that “we need to keep everybody together and go again” before name dropping 4 players in particular that he doesn’t want to see leave. “The likes of (Rhian) Brewster, Sander (Berge), Rammo (Aaron Ramsdale) and (Oli) McBurnie”. The issue here though is that some of these players will be sought after in the summer. Sander Berge is on many teams’ radar including fellow Premier League side Aston Villa. West Ham are reportedly interested in Aaron Ramsdale, and other important players such as John Egan and Jack O’Connell are talented enough to be playing Premier League football.
Wilder has always been one to speak his mind and he would definitely speak out against the board of they choose to cash in on some of their more valuable assets instead of backing the promotion push next season.

The current squad would most likely bounce back from the Championship, but keeping a relegated squad together is never an easy task. However, Wilder seems keen to prevent the team from breaking up.

Chris Wilder Sacked by Sheffield United with replacement already lined up
Quote
This morning the news of Chris Wilder’s shock exit from Brammall Lane was circling around social media but it has since been confirmed. But what’s even more surprising is his replacement.

Sheffield United have had a horrific season so far as they sit rock bottom of the Premier League table with 14 points from 28 games. There have been many factors that have led to this. They have suffered numerous long-term injuries to key players such as Jack O’Connell, they have been unable to finish chances when created, and they spent poorly in the summer. The Blades spent £20 million on forward Rhian Brewster, who is yet to score a goal this season.

There have been rumblings of a problematic relationship between Wilder and the ownership for a while now and it seems to have reached boiling point recently. A pre-match press conference was cancelled, and Wilder has now been relieved of his duties. The reasons why remain unclear as of this moment, but we imagine it must have something to do with a conflict in preparing for next season

Sheffield United were in a poor position in League 1 when Wilder took over and guided them on a fairy tale story. They were promoted to the Championship in 2017 and would reach the Premier League in 2019, pipping Yorkshire rivals Leeds United to second place. Wilder will forever be remembered for his heroic revolution at Sheffield United, but where do the club go from here?
TalkSPORT have reported that former Leeds and Barnsley manager Paul Heckingbottom could be in charge for Sheffield United’s next game against Leicester on Sunday. Whilst this may seem like a strange appointment from the outside, he is currently Sheffield United’s Under-23s coach so this is likely just until they can find a long-term replacement.

Paul Heckingbottom and former Celtic manager Neil Lennon are currently the favourites to be the next permanent manager but as of right now, Heckingbottom is the man in charge.

Bamboozling managers with new-fangled tactics and shouts of 'BASHY!'

A WALK ON THE WILDER SIDE
Fan. Ball boy. Player. Captain. Manager. As Sheffield United as Bramall Lane, Sean Bean and refusing to get out of bed on a particular day of the week because it’s called Wednesday. At the time of writing your Friday Fiver, it remains unclear whether Chris Wilder chose to leave, or has been sacked as Sheffield United boss. Either way, it doesn’t matter. He’s gone and we can only imagine that leaving the club in which he has invested almost a lifetime of blood, sweat and tears across a little over half a century is bound to be a wrench.
