Sheff Utd   2 - 0   Leeds
Sheffield United boosted their survival hopes with a win over Leeds United.

The Blades remain in the bottom three but the result puts the pressure back on the teams above them while denting Leeds's hopes of automatic promotion.

They took the lead after the break when Leeds man Eric Lichaj inadvertently turned in Nick Montgomery's effort.

Bjorn Helge Riise scored the second when he tucked into the bottom right before Leeds substitute Billy Paynter saw red for violent conduct.

It was a great match - they were strong throughout.  I don't know if Monty was MOTM, but he should have been!

I was assuming that Sean, wherever he is, had uttered all the expletives required by the occasion.

Oh well, just when I thought it couldn't get any worse.  They're bottom of the table now.

Not going to happen.  They just plain weren't up to the challenge yesterday - it wasn't that they didn't try (okay, there were a number who were calling it in) . . . they just weren't good enough.  The poor crosses and gutless performance (better to try and fail than not try at all.  Really.) of both the midfield and forwards meant we were doomed from the first whistle.  It was dire.

I have to agree with *small gag* Seth Bennett on this one . . . we go down, we lose many of the 'experienced' players (I am gutted about a few of those - like Monty and maybe even Morgs *argh!*) and bring in some of the new talent coming from the academy.  We probably won't bounce out of League 1 - but if it's going to be rebuilding from scratch, what's the point of bouncing out and taking it in the chops again?  Better to stay down for a couple of seasons, until the squad is ready for prime-time.

I'm not sure if I absolutely agree with his assessment about spending - he suggests that it started going pear-shaped when we went up to the Premier League and got worse and worse.  We have made piss-poor decisions; buying high and allowing ridiculous release clauses; but I'm not sure it's been all bad.

Mickey Adams swears he wants to stick with the club - I hope he does.  He was SO pissed off yesterday - wow.

:holycrap  All square - went off - came back - 2-0 down. Couldn't be any worse really.

I agree with Lighty - they'll go down, and let's hope they'll be back up when they have some chance of staying up.

Meanwhile I really hope that Blackpool beat the drop this year - they've worked so hard and done so well this season - to drop out at the very end would be horrible.

I'm beginning to think that Sean as a board member was their good luck.  Maybe they need to beg him to come back.

Actually, we didn't play completely piss-poor today.  Mostly, but not completely.  Simonson gave away an own-goal in the first minutes (sigh), but they couldn't score on their own until midway through the second half.  We scored two in the space of three minutes - screwed up and let them have one in the second . . . and then, in the 83rd minute, one of the new academy lads - 18 year old Jordon Slew - slotted in the winning goal for us.

If McGuire (another academy prospect) hadn't let his emotions overrule his sense and been red-carded (a Bristol player was ejected in the first half), we wouldn't have lost the lead and might have won 3-1 instead of taking it to the wire.

Bristol was not bad - we were slightly better.
