He's probably thinking 'We've hit rock bottom, there's nothing much to lose from starting from scratch.'

Hope so.  Feel bad about Mickey, though - he came into a club that was already racing toward the bottom, so little surprise he couldn't salvage it.  I think his comment about some (unidentified) players 'cheating' may have been too much for McCabe and the board - and maybe the players, too.

Yep, as somebody who manages a team, I would say that it's one thing to say stuff like that directly to the guys who work for you, but you don't say those things outside the team.  It's not really the way to get your team members on board if they are slagged off in public.

Can't believe that both Blackpool and Sheffield United, the two teams I've followed all season, have been relegated!  :backout

Danny Wilson unveiled as Sheffield United manager

Quote
Sheffield United have named Danny Wilson as their new manager on a three-year contract. The 51-year-old ex-Sheffield Wednesday boss left his last post at Swindon in March, resigning with the club in the League One relegation zone.

I'm not convinced he's the man for the job

His stints at Bristol City and Swindon weren't that great.

So, the new season starts on Saturday.

Back to searching the results every week but with some new teams to think about.

Sean gets the chance to visit Yeovil (if he's not working) at the end of the month.  (A place, I have to admit, I've never been to despite living almost 20 years in the South West).  Exeter I love and I'd be happy to be his personal tour guide.  Bournemouth can be a bit bleak in winter but it's neighbour Poole is quite nice and a bit historic.

We don't get that show, unfortunately - so Radio Sheffield via Blades Player is my only source . . . :(

A Blade from birth.

Blades: Sheffield United dancers poised for new season

Blades group to turn 30

Baby Blades!  Ah - crass commercialism at its finest.  I know they need money, but . . . wait . . . what am I saying?!  Blade dads and mums will LOVE this!

Not sure about the dancers.  Like the idea of community involvement, but it kind of smacks of US Football halftime entertainment - and that has morphed from being a short sidelight to an excuse to drag the game out to unreasonable lengths (bad enough that they stop play every 45 seconds - makes it about as interesting as watching paint dry.  And takes as long . . .).

The age limit on senior Blades is kind of weird - I guess it made more sense when they formed the group, but there are a lot of 30+ year supporters who are younger than sixty!

Thank you for collecting the articles, Patch; makes for interesting morning reading.

It wasn't tight until the last 20 minutes of the second half.  The extra half was a series of missed chances (mostly the Blades, but Hartlepool did show some vigour).  The last two penalty kicks that won us the match were lovely - Lowton took his time, lined it up . . . and Philliskirk did the opposite, striking into the top of the net almost before the ball had settled at his feet!

A remarkably clean match, too - we collected one yellow, and that not until the 99th minute.

I'm pleased, especially since Hartlepool is another League One club, so we got an advance taste of our competition.  Moving on to round two of the Cup is nice, too.

UTB!

Fans can fly the flag for Blades

http://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/football/sheffield-united/fans_can_fly_the_flag_for_blades_1_3672615

I think that's a fantastic idea - free to the fans (the fire treatment) and a real boost of colour on match days.
Have to wonder at who chose the blah brown in the new executive suite, though!
