Oops.  My bad.  Still won't be able to see it, as I'm on the road to AZ as soon as the match is over (now, as a matter of fact).

Blades lost to the Dons - no surprise.  I couldn't seem them pulling it together after yesterday's debacle.  Wednesday pulled out a win, so there's one point between us now.

Ched Evans: Sheffield United Twitter probe into Connor Brown rape case comments

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-17810574

This is a horrific story, but it's not too surprising that the girl would get outed - or that one of Evans' teammates would be angry enough at the verdict to do something that stupid (if indeed that is what he did).

There is an appalling lack of logic in the verdict in this case.  I'm sure many people feel as I do - that Ched may have well deserved his sentence, but he is also serving as the whipping boy - the 'example' - because he is the higher profile of the two players.  Had McDonald also been convicted, it would seem much more reasonable.

Rosie the Riveter in Blades kit?  Yeah - Rosie was a tough lady . . . but she was a bird.  Crimey - the Owls will have a field day with that one.

Not sure I like the one's that borrow from old Soviet and Imperial Japan imagery - some people do remember those days (some around still who lived through WWII).  Better if they had borrowed from WWI posters, instead (staying away from the nasty, jingoistic ones).

Extremely rare 1899 Sheffield United memento for sale

Quote
It COST only one old penny new - but now, more than 100 years later, one of the rarest and most sought-after Sheffield United programmes is set to fetch between £5,000 and £6,000 at auction.

ooh.  Too bad about the tape - that is so damaging to the paper!

I love looking at old adverts (and 1899 was the year my grandmother was born!)  Interesting that the shorts today are pretty much the same length as 113 years ago - and they had studded boots.  Wonder when they started that . . . *wanders off to find out* . . .

edited to add:
that didn't take long.  The "Ellis Patent Boot Stud" was first advertised in 1886; they were like tacks, pushed into the sole of the boot.  In 1863, the FA had banned any kind of projection from the sole of the boot - these "Ellis" studs were allowed in 1891, but they had to be made from leather, no more than a 1/2 inch high and the metal shank had to push completely into the sole, so the base of the stud was flush (no exposed metal).

Rather interesting that there was so much concern for health and safety on the pitch during a period of time when there were virtually no safety regulations in place for factory workers.  There's a paper in there somewhere . . .

Hey - I'm just glad someone else thinks it's interesting, najin!

My head is stuffed full of largely useless bits and pieces of information . . . magpie brain.  Unfortunately, I have the attention span of a gnat (which may be an insult to gnats - *which just made me wonder if gnats have attention spans and if I could find out . . . which just goes to prove how SHORT mine is . . .*)

So, who is watching the FA Cup-final today? I despise both Liverpool and Chelsea with a passion but think I'll be going for a scouser win.

Wish I could.  All I get on my TV today is Arsenal vs Norwich in Premier League play.

I probably will later - being in the US has its advantages (replays).  Listening to the Blades/Exeter match this morning.

Well, I have a sinking feeling that after a brilliant campaign, the Blades are going to spend another season in League One.  We don't do well in play-offs.  We've won the last match - Beattie was sent off (not that he's proven to be worth anything since he signed on) - and ended the regular season in third.

Very sad.
