Why can't filmmakers leave the original movies alone and come up with their own ideas?  Are they so lazy that they can only do remakes instead of coming up with fresh, new scripts?

I posted this in the other Red Riding thread here last week, but in case anyone is able to go to the Chicago Film Festival, it's still going on through October 22, and it features Red Riding.

Red Riding one of 12 films selected for a Gala Presentation at LA's AFI Film Festival.  So will someone explain to me how Ridley Scott could possibly produce anything that comes close to the original?

Im so appalled by the notion of Ridley Scott re-making Red Riding I feel it beneath my dignity to even comment on it!!
