Favourite Literary Hero
« on: September 26, 2009, 12:39:58 AM »
Got this in a newsletter:

Quote
What makes an unforgettable literary hero?
Is it the debonair charm of Rupert Campbell Black, or the brooding, wild mystery of Heathcliff? Perhaps Richard Sharpe’s dashing bravery makes you swoon, or do you prefer the quiet intensity of Captain Corelli?

The vital ingredients required to create the ultimate romantic hero on the page are up for discussion at Cheltenham’s event on Literary Heroes on 13th October, but we want to know what you think…

Win a romantic hamper!
Here are ten heroes guaranteed to raise the temperature — from Jilly Cooper to Jane Austen. All votes received enter a competition to WIN A FABULOUS ROMANTIC HAMPER OF CHAMPAGNE AND BOOKS, from Britain’s iconic romance publisher Mills & Boon.

Vote for your favourite literary hero:

http://cheltenhamfestivals.com/literaryheroes/

After you vote, click on the Literature button to check out the details about the Cheltenham Literature Festival. (Personally, I wouldn't mind meeting the yummy Colin Salmon, one of many celebrity guests!) The festival is October 9 - 18.

I just voted--for Richard Sharpe, of course.  There were a couple of characters that I'm not familiar with.

I was sorely tempted to put down Mr Rochester, but the I would probably kill him in real life.

Come to think of it, I probably would kill Richard Sharpe too ....

Gee thanks, Exbill, just what I need, a walk to the second hand shop carrying a pile of heavy books! What if I meet someone I know? This is a small town, I'll never live down the shame..........

LJ, you can save them to give as Christmas gifts.  You'd be surprised how many closet romance readers there are around you.   :mutley:

It's a well-known fact that those romances are the ladies' equivalent of the males' Playboy. So, who cares, really?

Ladies are not easily turned on by those pictures without a good story. That's why the Playgirl never caught on.

I don't think I can vote. Before I read Sharpe's, my hero was Vladamir Taltos, so how does a girl choose? Just because Sharpe was made into a show and the Taltos series isn't isn't enough for me to pick one over the other.
