For the most part, there's not much to dislike about the film, as it delivers exactly what you'd expect and more. If it were released theatrically it probably wouldn't be as enjoyable, but seeing as it's a STD prequel with a modest budget (all of which can be seen on screen), it ends up being quite the entertaining ride.

For a film that was designed for the direct to DVD market, you’d have to call this a success. It may be smaller scale and with lesser known actors in the main roles, but it does deliver on its promise of action, albeit not so high octane. It would have flopped horrendously at the cinemas, but could actually gain an audience on home video. Death Race 3 has already been green lit, and as long as it remains in the DVD market, I’d welcome it. Or, bring back Statham.

LEAST FAVORITE MOVIES OF 2010

Quote
Death Race 2: Frankenstein Lives – This entirely unnecessary prequel explores the origins of the masked Frankenstein – originally modeled by David Carradine in Death Race 2000 way back in 1975.  A bearded Sean Bean, a suited Ving Rhames and a shirtless ‘Jewish-Mexican’ Danny Trejo are all equally appalling in their supporting roles – perhaps an ill-conceived casting attempt to lend the project some B-list Hollywood credibility.  The script is pathetic, the acting below par, the plot is riddled with holes and the action –- perhaps the only draw for perspective DVD shoppers — is unfortunately lackluster.  Death Race 2 was never going to be the next big thing, but that is no excuse for shoddy filmmaking, the likes of which haven’t been seen since, well, Paul W.S. Anderson’s Death Race. Unsurprisingly, the straight-to-DVD sequel is an absolute, unflinching pile of Shyamalan.

I thought Danny Trejo did a decent job of keeping the movie some what entertaining, but again, the script and the overall acting was like the Titanic sinking.  Even actor Sean Bean gave a performance that would make his mother cry.

Well, I've seen it and you all know what I think of critics.  I had a really good time with this piece of escapist fare.  Its a good popcorn film.

It was mighty enjoyable watching Tanit Phoenix bounce and while Danny Trejo, Ving Rhames and Sean Bean can at times be… how do you say… not so discriminating when it comes to the movies they choose to show up in on occasion, yet all three actors are undeniable screen presences and all three can give their respective agents a pat on the back for this one.

So while I have no doubt that Death Race 2 was green-lit for entirely financial reasons, I also have no doubt that the filmmakers on Death Race 2 tried to deliver something of quality to the action fans who love mindless stuff once in a while. Plus the flick takes advantage of its home video lineage and delivers an unapologetically "hard R" action-fest. It's disposable, forgettable, and silly -- but Death Race 2 is also quite a bit better than what normally passes for a "DTV sequel."

There are lots of villains in this movie and most of them have at least one funny bit of ludicrousness. For Sean Bean it’s his overly convoluted attempts at snappy dialogue. Before killing a guy he says, “The box, with its implications of rigidity and squareness, symbolizes unimaginative thinking and painful frustration.” (Bang!) “Sometimes we just need to step back and see if the solution to our problem is outside the box.”

(In other words, “Let off some steam, Bennett!”)

He also has a part where he throws a fit and smashes a flat screen TV. Funny, because those things have been around for a long time, and there’s a grand tradition of dramatic TV smashing in movies, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen it done with a flat screen until now. History is made.

I think it's a little lame to blame Sean for crappy dialogue or scene choices.  He didn't write the damned thing.  Had the reviewer said "For Sean Bean's character it's his overly  convoluted attempts . . ." it would have made more sense.

Sloppy reviewer.

I thought you would like to know about the villain of the movie: Sean Bean, who plays Markus Kaine. He is without a doubt a terrific actor, but in this movie he is sub par and nothing he says is understandable, probably because he is always eating and has his mouth full. So, they don’t take advantage of his beautiful accent in this movie. Instead, he is more unlikeable than scary and evil.

I just received my copy TODAY!!!!! So I should have my review soon. I'm sure this will NOT be his best film, however more
people may see him and realize that he is something special. Who know's maybe the average person will look for him in his
next film or TV show.  :slyfox

OK I just watched this film and Sean is HOT and SEXY,but the rest of this movie is not great. However the scenes with
Sean are definitely worth watching!!!! ( over and over ) Also he can apparently make a great sandwich for his female
friends!!!!!I really liked the last scene he did for this film I think his character showed alot of class in the end!! AS TO THE
REST OF THIS MOVIE USE YOUR FAST FORWARD BUTTON TO GET TO SEAN'S PARTS!!!!!! You will thank me for it!!! :slyfox

It should be understood that Sean Bean (Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, GoldenEye) can and should open any and all films by having breakfast with an unnamed topless girl fresh out of the pool. I’m just saying.  Even the talk of soccer being the greatest sport in the world earns a free pass thanks to that introduction!  Bean also has the sacrilegious privilege of destroying a flat screen television- but who knew such destruction could be so cool? Oh, and his relatively quiet woman can also be found later in an equal state of undress on top of the kitchen counter.  Bean’s got a full service- if a little unsanitary- household, eh? Thankfully, Kane isn’t afraid to get down and dirty in the violence while still delivering some aptly badass dialogue.  Bean is in the film for a respectable amount of time-unlike some of his recent stateside appearances coughpercyjacksoncough- but there should have been more. Kane’s cruel and deceptive and we know he will get what he wants

When I see him in films like this I wonder why he bothered to do it.  Small role done well but I wonder how many of his scenes wound up on the floor that the director cut out. :bride:

:mutley: Actually just watched this! LOL  It really isn't my usual style of movie, but it actually came up for checkout at the Milwaukee Public Library system (who woulda thunk?!?!).  I am guilty, of course, of fastforwarding and rewinding the SB parts, but I did watch some of the rest, and it wasn't too bad -- popcorn for the mind.  I was a little surprised that SB had so much screen time.  He was good in the role (though it was by no means a stretch for him!!), looked great.  I bet he had fun doing this, and got paid besides.  I do hope he got to keep the wardrobe!!  :hellyeah2:
