Does anyone know why the Daily Mail seems to hate Sean?

I just read a little piece about Sean being in "Accused" over at the DM and they were so pissy I couldn't believe it.

Is there a history between them that I don't know about? They seem to put him down no matter what he does.

BBC trailers promote four-times-married actor Sean Bean, pictured, in his role as a transvestite in Jimmy McGovern’s new TV  drama,  Accused. After a ‘full body wax’ he traipsed out publicly in drag ‘to see if I could pull it off’. A passer-by complimented him on his shoes. I wonder if Bean’s reputation as ‘a Sheffield hard man’ is deserved.

Sean said: “I started watching women, how they smoke, their deportment, how they carry their handbags, how they hold their hand out slightly - all those little things.
“And I did it in front of the mirror. I thought I looked a bit hunched so I got my shoulders back - I took it very seriously.”
He had a full body wax which he said hurt ‘just a bit’

Yes, patch, that was the little blurb I read. Thank you! What is the point of mentioning he's been married four times? It has nothing to do with the Accused. And then they threw in the little dig at the end questioning his masculinity. It just seemed pissy to me.

Sean sued some rag a couple of years ago over "false" stories about him and Seina? (no idea how to spell her name) Miller.  I am not sure which paper he sued so was it the Daily Mirror?

I think it was the Sun, but it might have been the Mail - but he didn't sue, I don't think (she might have).  He just issued a public statement, which was very unusual for him.  I think B4 was behind that public declaration.  They weren't married, though the engagement came not too long after it happened.  First, though, we were treated to a couple of stomach-churning lovey-dovey "interviews" in which he declared everything but his undying love for the twit . . . always found that interesting that was the one thing he never said.

The Mirror is probably the least egregious of the three big red-tops - I think the Sun is worse than the DM, myself, but mileage varies on that and I suspect our UK contingent are better situated to comment.

Our article "Sienna's Bean seen on a date with Sean" on August 14 said Sean Bean had separated from his long-term girlfriend Georgina Sutcliffe and spent a romantic evening with Sienna Miller. We now know that Mr Bean did not meet with Miss Miller on that night. We understand that, in fact, they have only ever met once, some four years ago. Mr Bean continues to be in a happy relationship with Miss Sutcliffe. We apologise to Mr Bean for any embarrassment or distress caused.

THERE'S a reason why Sean Bean has been branded the thinking woman's bit of rough.
It's clear from the way he swaggers into his local pub in north London -- bringing with him the smell of fresh cigarette smoke -- and from those weathered good looks and that slow, deliberate Sheffield brogue

The story draws us in brilliantly then unsettles us with deft turns, but because we opened in a courtroom cell, we know this will end badly. We know tragedy, as always with Accused, is hanging in the air waiting to swamp the characters. And thanks to soulful performances (Bean and Graham are superb) and writing that takes us from 0 to 60 in a few scenes, we care.

His legs are great for this part, but his face is another story.  He's definitely not a pretty woman.

They are thin - but very well shaped.  No extra fat, some nice lean muscle.

They don't really match his top half; never have - but they're nice, imo.

Digital Spy interview.

"So I kind of knew I wanted to do it, but it was quite a long process reaching the character that I wanted to portray. Psychologically, it was quite a leap. A big leap. That takes some time to get to - it wasn't just... bang, switch it on. You can't just suddenly turn yourself into a character like that.

"It took a while, with how you carry it physically and also psychologically to get my head around it. That was quite a journey. I thought I'd got it, then I hadn't. By the first day I just had to jump in feet first. Once I'd done that I'd knew I'd cracked it and felt good."

Sean Bean has revealed that he and Stephen Graham "went for it" when it came to playing lovers on-screen.......
Sean said: "It's unusual casting and that's the beauty of it. When he first saw me as Tracie he said, 'You look great!'

"Stephen's a pretty masculine guy but he's also got a sensitive, vulnerable side and Tony has too. The chemistry between us and what we achieved was good because we didn't have any inhibitions. He went for it and so did I."

Accused, BBC1, starring Sean Bean and Stephen Graham PREVIEW

Quote
Tracie's Story – the opener for this new four-part series – is a gobsmacking and daring drama.

And that's not just because it has the headline-grabbing prospect of Sean Bean –Yorkshire hardman and Game of Thrones' Lord Stark – playing slightly against type as a transvestite, but that it is also a tender, funny and tragic story about a scorned type of love.

TV preview: Accused

But there’s an aching vulnerability beneath Tracey, which Bean shows brilliantly – yes, he nails the artificially-pitched voice and wobbly stiletto walk, but it’s a testament to his performance that soon you are focusing more on the way the heavy make-up sags into the creases of his face than the fact that he’s wearing it. There’s a particularly shivery moment when Tracey shaves the hair from her arm, just below Bean’s own “100% Blade” tattoo which they’ve not covered up and so serves, perhaps, as a hint at Simon’s earlier life.

Interesting that they've cut it down to just 4 episodes. The first series was 6. I'm wondering if the fee for Sean may have robbed the piggy bank for the full 6 episodes??? He's without a doubt the biggest name actor they have snagged so far. Plenty of other recognizable British telly stars, but nothing on a level with Sean.

Radio Times interview

Quote
What’s your guilty pleasure?

I watch all the soaps almost religiously. I also find true crime documentaries oddly moreish.

And your childhood favourite?

The Flashing Blade, a French show about these really good swordsmen who were always riding horses, duelling and rescuing women.

What would you bring back?

Steptoe and Son. My mum and dad and sister and I used to love watching it together: the father and son always arguing but their love so deep they can’t get away from it.

What do you do to lull yourself to sleep at night?

Classic FM. Sometimes I have it on all night at a very low volume. I need to get back into playing the piano because it’s a lovely way to get away from things and relax.

I just watched it and it was absolutely brilliant. You just have to love Tracie. Very surprising ending. Won't give any spoilers. And @Lighty quite a bit of Wordsworth and Tennyson thrown in.
