All of this, aided by silly jokes and lots of earnest feeling from the seven Dwarves, contributes to make “Mirror Mirror” one of the most entertaining and lovable films of the kind to come out in years.
Children will most definitely love it, but adults looking for true escapism should also give it a shot, especially since it has some double-entendre jabs that will get them all giggly.

The final reveal (Sean Bean’s appearance) and the closing sequence just gave the satisfactory contrast of the film to the ending of the original narrative.

I like all kinds of movies, including sapping kids flicks.  This does look really good.  The costumes are fantastic.  So guess I will have to go see it.

An all too welcome addition to a sorely lacking genre, Mirror Mirror is a well-rounded and fully engaging must-see that thoroughly deserves to stand the test of time as a classic adventure for the whole family.

MOVIE REVIEW: Makers of 'Mirror' deserve seven years bad luck

Quote
Except for a couple of minor players, like Mare Winningham as the court baker, Sean Bean as Snow’s long-missing father and Michael Lerner as a royal flunky, the cast is embarrassingly awful, with Robert’s topping the bill.

When is Sean going to be in a movie the critics love?

I wouldn't worry about what the critics are saying about this film. They always blast the kiddie films that have to have over-the-top performers, gaudy costumes, slapstick comedy, pratfalls and pranks, loud, bombastic villains and a bit of catchy music in order to hold the attention of today's kids.  The critics are NOT the intended audience and the intended audience seems to be quite happy with it.  I'm sure ticket sales and the gazillions made on merchandising will just inflame the critics even more.  They all seem so nasty these days, as if they don't want anyone, of any age, to simply be entertained.  Films like these will never rack up much in awards outside of the Kids Choice Awards.  Sean seems to be quite happy with the end product as did all those ordinary people who have been asked for their opinions on exiting the theater after seeing it.  I'm much happier at the thought that little girls might want to emulate this particular plucky Snow White than Bella and all her fellow Twilight emo robots.

As for Sean being in films that critics love, what about Cleanskin?  The majority loved it and yet it wasn't anything near what you could call successful at the box office. Same for Cash, Age of Heroes, Red Riding...he's never been arsed about the critics before, why worry now and I tend to agree with him.  Everyone who can blog thinks they're a critic these days.  Critics have been become reduncant and I could care less if they simply entered the ranks of the unemployed, ALL of them.

and Sean Bean who, as the long-lost King, turns up at the end looking tearily confused, like a tramp at a Christmas carol concert.

This critic didn't like his costume any more than we did.

By the way, who do we blame for this 'girl power' trend?

I'm first there saying that a chick can be as tough as a dude - but things like perfect nails, perfect hair, perfect make-up, skin-tight clothing, and slut heels are rarely part of the package.

I find this trend as offensive as the sweater sets, pearls, and practiced guile of 1950s debutantes.

Didn't the Spice Girls start it?  Now its evolved into Sookie Stackhouse and clones.  It is pretty dismaying, but at least its preferable to the angsty Bella Swan.  I'm rather glad they have gotten away from the whole damsel in distress thing and female victimization, but perhaps its gone a bit too far.

Mirror Mirror was reviewed in my newspaper today by four people that have a column each week.  They aren't professionals, just local people who see a lot of movies.  They use a 4 star rating system.  Two people gave it 2 stars, the other two gave it 3 stars.  They gave pretty positive reviews overall, but one reviewer did say he would advise people to wait for the dvd, which is what I plan to do.
