Here's another article which gives a little more description of the movie.

I wonder if this will be released in theaters?  It sounds like something that might go straight to dvd.

Unfortunately he stars in a lot of films that go straight to DVD in the US market.  Not sure how he can do such great work in some projects (like GOT) and then does what I find interesting films, but not marketable.  I have to believe he is  getting tapped on the shoulders for bigger roles in money films and saying no to them because he doesn't like the project, character, location, or for some reason does not want to do them.

Sean Bean has been in some terrible movies, but even in those, he’s always strong. He’s a grizzled, leathery badass of a sort they don’t make much anymore, a trait the English-born actor has used to great effect .......
While Bean combined with the words “post-apocalyptic” are more than enough to get me to watch a movie.........
Only a guy like Bean can pull off a name like Atticus Gage. You’d think about laughing, but he’d shoot you one of those intense, chilling looks he’s so good at, and you’ll swallow your mirth and hope he doesn’t slap you. Bean can do it and make it feel natural

Alas, 'attached' doesn't mean he's signed on the dotted line and there is no confirmation anywhere that says he's actually 'signed'.

Atticus Gage ?????? Sounds like someone who eats nails for breakfast !!!! Well if it gets made it should be a good role for Sean.
It's a clearskin, Lee Marvin kind of part. Sean could redo all of Lee Marvin's old movies and they would be good. He has all these
projects waiting for money. It's strange. Do people still think that the end of the world is comming in Dec.???? Are they afraid to
invest in anything until next year ????? Even Sean ????? :slyfox

Especially Sean.  Brilliant actor but not particularly good box office.  He could be, but that would require selling his soul for a couple of Hollyweird flicks and he won't do it (or wouldn't when they were offering and now they don't bother . . . or something).

I think that older actors that are good at their profession are in demand. There is a TON of good-looking younger people that cann't
do anything but POSE !!!!! Movies need someone who can read the lines and may you FEEL for the characters. Look at John Goodman
and Steve Buscem both good actors who seemed to be going nowhere for years, But Hollywood needs their talent so now they finially
are getting some FAME. It's becasue their older that this is happening, this way they cann't upstage the younger actor that's some
one's relative.

More detailed synopsis of the film

Quote
Atticus Gage (Bean) is a bounty hunter in a lawless new world. After the earth suffered an environmental collapse the air became dangerous to breathe, the water became toxic and billions of people died. Generations later, mankind has finally re-established a rudimentary society, attempting to pick up the pieces that continue to blister in the sun.

Gage lives on the edges of that society, traveling the Wasteland in search of wanted criminals, and the bounties on their heads. His treasure is silver and water purification tablets, a new currency in a ravaged world. He is a merciless loner who is very similar to the criminals he hunts. When Gage is presented with the bounty of a lifetime, he cannot resist, and goes off in search of the baddest criminal in these badlands, Elijah Jackson.

Jackson and his ruthless gang have taken over the settlement called Defiance hanging the bodies of bounty hunters and other ‘lawmen’ who tried to bring them to justice. Jackson enslaved the town, and forced the inhabitants to mine for silver, a critical ingredient in water and air purification, and subsequently, the most valuable mineral in the new world.

Gage pretends to be a criminal and infiltrates Jackson’s gang. Gage earns his confidence as he bides his time before he attempts to capture Jackson. Everything goes according to plan, until Gage falls in love with Jackson’s girl, Melena. With his loyalty to himself now tested, Gage learns that there’s more to life than just survival.

Have we run out of plots?  We must have run out of plots . . . because this isn't just a spin on a tired plotline, it IS the tired plotline.
Pick a post-apocalyptic or far-future film/book and there it is.

If it comes around and if he's involved, I'm sure Sean will do his usual great job.

If only he can behave himself until shooting beings in February.  But that is three months.  Can he keep a low profile that long?

This is a good thing as it means the film has some financial backing.  There is still work to be done before they start filming, and it is possible this film still won't be made but it is a step forward.

Filming in Vancouver ...

Pre-production for Scorched Earth, a feature film from British director Peter Howitt (The Fixer, Reasonable Doubt), has gotten underway in Vancouver.

The movie, written by Bobby Mort (The Colbert Report) and Vancouver filmmaker Kevin Leeson, tells the story of a bounty hunter named Atticus Gage who tracks down criminals in a post-apocalyptic Earth

The script has been around for a few years and was being pitched to buyers at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2012 with Sean Bean (Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings) originally tabbed to play Atticus Gage.

There is no casting information on the movie's IMDB page.

THRILLER: A SCORCHED EARTH With Sean Bean To Film in Vancouver

Quote
Sean Bean as a bounty hunter in a post-environmental-collapse scorched Earth. Billions have died but the survivors have rudimentary laws. Count me in for this Mad Max-esque thriller

Bounty hunter Atticus Gage embarks on his biggest bounty hunt ever in the Badlands.

Brad Turner directs A Scorched Earth based on a screenplay by Bobby Mort and Kevin Leeson.

A Scorched Earth is expected to film in metro Vancouver from February 8th to March 7th (dates subject to change), according to the Directors Guild of Canada – BC production list.

Damn, they first mentioned this years ago.
