Sean Bean as lead narrator of the bone-chilling game Kholat!

Quote
IMGN.PRO is extremely pleased to announce that the lead narrator of the studio’s video game, entitled “ Kholat", is played by one of the most famous British actors - Sean Bean.

Sean Bean is an actor known for many notable roles including Boromir in Peter Jackson's “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy and Ned Stark in the drama television series “Game of Thrones”.

The co-author of the game, and co-owner of IMGN.PRO, Lukasz Kubiak, says:

“Working with an amazing actor such as Sean Bean was an overwhelming experience. He came up with an incredible mix of emotion, drama and intrigue in the creation of the role. We are beyond satisfied with the results.”

Sean Bean portrayed the mysterious Anton - one of four narrators that uncover the following elements of the story.

Kholat will hit the shelves by the second quarter of 2015.

Kholat is an exploration game with strong elements of horror, inspired by the true story of nine Russian students who died in unexplained circumstances in north of the Ural Mountains on the east shoulder of Kholat Syakhl. The event is widely known as the Dyatlov Pass incident. It will be out in 2015 for both PC and Mac.

Sean Bean portrayed the mysterious Anton – one of four narrators that uncover the following elements of the story. Sean Bean has appeared in the TV show Game of Thrones as well as the James Bond film Goldeneye and of course Lord of the Rings, also did voice work for Elder Scrolls Oblivion a few years back

Kholat - Interview with Lukasz Kubiak of IMGN.PRO

Quote
David: You recently announced that Sean Bean provides the voice acting for the game's lead narrator, which I must say is great. For those of you who don’t know, Sean Bean is the actor who played Ned Stark in HBO’s Game of Thrones, and Boromir in Lord of the Rings. Can you talk about what it was like working with Mr. Bean? Do you have any interesting anecdotes you can share from the experience?

Lukasz: Well, it was like a dream come true, actually; we are truly his fans. Sean Bean was very professional, he did a great job, his voice is just amazing. When you hear it you know it’s him. I think that he is the best in serious acting and there is a lot of serious acting in Kholat - so you can imagine the result. And after everything he came to us, we chatted a little bit, about Poland and our game and that was it!

 Kholat review

How a real life mystery makes Kholat a novel experience

Quote
If you're looking to make a truly terrifying game, sometimes you don't have to look further than real-life events. That's the route Bartosz Moskala and Lukasz Kubiak, co-founders of Polish studio IMGN Pro, decided to take when they drew inspiration from The Dylatov Pass Incident for the story to their debut game, Kholat, a narrative driven horror 'experience'.
The success or failure of Kholat could rest solely on how atmospheric the experience is. Even in the unfinished state in which I played it, the impressive environment, sculpted in Unreal Engine 4, was rich in detail, with wide-open vistas making way for dark, dank caves lit by flickering flames. It's definitely one for the sightseers.

We would like to announce the new release date of Kholat – 10th June, 2015.
The decision to postpone the premiere was influenced by the extra time needed to achieve uncompromised game quality.

it is motivated by our respect for the players, therefore we agreed to avoid the risk of releasing an unpolished game. As a totally independent studio we’re able to make it, without an external publisher pressure. Our one and only commitment is for the players.

Currently Kholat is in almost finished state and the additional time will be spent on the game testing, optimizing and debugging.

Exploring the Real-Life Mystery Behind ‘Kholat’

Quote
BD: Could you talk a little bit about working with Sean Bean?

It was a sensational experience. Sean Bean is a great actor — he was super professional, despite the fact that his role in Kholat was quite small compared to his movies. He played it exactly as I pictured it in my head. Of course, the whole process of negotiating and establishing the details with his agents was quite laborious, but it is a normal thing with an actor of this class.

We had a small amount of time for the recording. Sean’s agents told us that he would be in London for just two days and we had to adjust. We had to change all our plans and book the plane immediately to adapt to his schedule.

Kholat Official Release Trailer 1080p

'Kholat' Launch Trailer Features Sean Bean Narrating Haunting, Mysterious Game

Quote
Developer IMGN.PRO has released a launch trailer for their upcoming title Kholat, which has the distinction of being narrated by the true king of Winterfell, Sean Bean. In it, he speaks in his inimitable fashion-

"In the end, the only thing I saw, was a flash. An insufferable burning light. Pain ripping apart my body. I felt it tearing out of my soul. After a while I was nobody. Nothing. The light went out and I vanished into overwhelming darkness. I welcomed the end with delight..."

This of course isn't the first time Sean Bean has narrated a game- he's also the voice behind the wonderful audio-only title Papa Sangre 2, another game that dealt with death and the afterlife.

"The trailer that we have released today is the best short summary of one and half years of our development work, which is finally coming to an end," said Łukasz Kubiak of IMGN.PRO in a statement. "During that time Kholat has undergone the way from an ambitious idea in our heads to a finished game with a few hours of gameplay taking place in an open world, narrated by one of the most famous British actors. There is one thing however, that hasn’t changed from the very beginning – Kholat is a game that doesn’t follow mainstream game design rules but creates its own, which are based on players intelligence and imagination."

Sean Bean Narrates His Own Death In This Horror Game

Quote

Yep, that’s Sean Bean alright. He definitely sounds like he’s ali— oh wait, he’s narrating his own death. Gotcha. Dead before the thing’s even out this time. Dude cannot catch a break.

The trailer’s pretty, but it doesn’t give a great sense of how the game will work. Its Steam page, however, makes it sound quite alluring, given that it takes place in an open-world (not the cramped confines that typically characterize this sort of thing) and focuses on player-driven discovery. So kinda Vanishing of Ethan Carter-esque, perhaps. Also, the story’s based on A Thing That Actually Happened:

Kholat is coming to PS4

Quote
We’re excited to announce that Kholat is finally coming to PS4! The most terrifying journey of your life will have its PSN release on March 8th 2016.

The date of this announcement is not accidental – today marks exactly 57 years since infamous Dyatlov Pass Incident, which served as our main inspiration during the creation of Kholat.

It was the event that took the lives of 9 Russian students, hiking the Ural Mountains, on the night of February 2 nd 1959. The real cause of this tragedy is still unknown, with many hypothesis arising during the years.

And that’s not all - starting from 3 AM PST today - Kholat gets 57% discount for 57th anniversary on Steam.

Kholat, the horror adventure game is coming to Nintendo Switch
Quote
Succeeding a first release on PC and Mac in 2015, then on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One the following years, Kholat invites itself on Nintendo Switch in a few days.
In this story inspired by real events, Kholat recounts the Dyatlov Pass accident in 1959, in which 9 Russian hikers lost their lives. Your role will be to investigate the mysterious conditions of these deaths. Namely, the internal organs of the victims had been found on the trail of Kholat Syakhl.
Several challenges in the open world will be taken up during a story that will keep you busy for 4 to 6 hours. To navigate this non-linear universe, you have at your disposal a map and a compass. This story is told to you by actor Sean Bean.
Kholat will be available on the Nintendo eshop from May 14, 2020.
