Snowpiercer Season 4: Which Platform Could Continue the Series?
TNT confirmed they would not air the completed final fourth season of Snowpiercer. Let's look at other platforms where the series could continue.
Quote
At first glance, the logical place for Snowpiercer to finish its run is WBD's in-house HBO Max (or whatever the name is after the Discovery+ merger). Several series have moved off linear television onto the streamer, with simulcasts also becoming an emerging trend, as with HBO's mega-hits House of the Dragon and The Last of Us. Keeping Snowpiercer in the WBD family would likely simplify any complex negotiations needing to take place if the show moves elsewhere. However, fans shouldn't get their hopes up, as Zaslav doesn't show any signs of going back on his tax write-offs. With recent claims that they are done with culling popular shows, maybe WBD will come back around.

Another option, and the gold standard for canceled shows receiving second lives, is Netflix. However, Snowpiercer season four has a crucial difference compared to other recent Netflix continuations like Manifest. Whereas Netflix produced an entirely new season of Manifest, Snowpiercer is already filmed. No production is necessary, and all Netflix would need to do is release the episodes and give the fans a platform.

There may be an opening at the House of Mouse as well. While it doesn't really fit the Disney+ vibe (mostly since it's not family-friendly, MCU, or Star Wars-related), Hulu could be a new home. The streamer has seen success in the dystopian and thriller genres, especially with its "FX on Hulu" branding and titles like American Horror Stories, Y: The Last Man, and The Patient. Adding the fourth season of Snowpiercer, and potentially the first three, could help the show enjoy a long life in good dystopian thriller company.

Moving away from streaming, Snowpiercer could also keep its home on traditional linear television. AMC comes to mind, as The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, and Better Call Saul were some of the most acclaimed dramas in television history. In addition, keeping Snowpiercer on cable television could satisfy the fans nostalgic for an era before streaming, when you could watch your shows at the same time every week.

In any case, there are endless platforms for Snowpiercer to broadcast its final season and give fans a chance to disembark from the Eternal Engine with a sense of closure. It's now up to Tomorrow Studios to see where this train lands. In the meantime, all we can do is speculate about what season four will bring. So, what's the deal with the rocket coming from Layton's group's camp anyway?

Will Season 4 of ‘Snowpiercer’ be on Netflix Despite TNT Cancelation?
Quote
All aboard for one last time, as Snowpiercer was initially supposed to return for a fourth and final season in 2023 but with the show now canceled at TNT, will Netflix still be carrying it as it does exclusively with seasons 1 to 3?

In case you didn’t know, since season 1, Netflix has carried Snowpiercer internationally as a Netflix Original. Better yet, every season thus far has seen weekly episodes drop onto the service.
Now, the show was originally renewed for a fourth and final season. That fourth season began filming in late March 2022 and wrapped up in August 2022.

It was then in January 2023 we got the bombshell news that season 4 was not going to be airing on TNT but that Tomorrow Studios, the production company behind the show, was looking to shop it elsewhere.

The reason behind the cancelation was a mixture of reasons, but primarily because Warner Bros. Discovery had been slowly moving its scripted series off of TNT or even canceling them outright, and it turns out Snowpiercer fell in the latter camp. It also came at a time when Warner Bros Discovery was canceling numerous projects and pulling others from its streaming platforms.

The show was even dropped from HBO Max and is currently not available to stream in the United States.

Another high-profile TNT show, Obliterated by the creators of Cobra Kai, moved to Netflix and is scheduled to release in 2023.

The underlying rights to the series were picked up by Tomorrow Studios, but it’s been unclear how their efforts to find a new home have gone now a couple of months later.

Tomorrow Studios’ Marty Adelstein, CEO/Partner, and Becky Clements, President/Partner, told Deadline, “We love Snowpiercer and believe season four completes a story with incredible talent that will entertain viewers while exploring issues of climate change and class warfare. We are so passionate about this series that we have acquired the rights to control the franchise,”

Will Snowpiercer season 4 head to Netflix?
As it stands, no.

Our understanding is that Netflix is not obligated to carry the show’s fourth season, given that it’s not aired or been fully completed.

Of course, Netflix makes sense as a home for season 4, given it holds the international license, but as it stands, there’s no news on whether Netflix will be that future home. As time passes, the likelihood of it happening becomes increasingly small.

Netflix will remain the home to Snowpiercer seasons 1-3 for the foreseeable future, with most regions now having the rights to the series until March 29th, 2032.

“Snowpiercer” Cast Unknowingly Scanned for AI Use Star Confirms
Quote
One of the many legitimate reasons SAG-AFTRA is striking is due to the AMPTP demanding actors allow productions to do ‘full body scans of performers.’ It’s not just the scans, it’s the fact that actors would only be paid a day’s wages to be scanned. Those results would then be the property of the production, “for the rest of eternity,” with the actor never receiving compensation for uses of their likeness.

SAG President Fran Drescher and National Executive Director and Chief Negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland addressed the public in a rousing press conference yesterday, announcing the strike. They touched on this scanning proposal from the AMPTP, which was news to many.

Tony Award winner and Grammy nominee Lena Hall, who stars in TNT’s “Snowpiercer,” has confirmed she and other series regulars did “full body scan and full range of emotion capture” for season 4, without being told “the real reason why.” This is the first confirmation we’ve gotten so far that the practice was already going into effect.

She also clarifies in the comments that “they told us it was for special effects but were very vague!” Yeah, we guess this could be considered special effects? This is pretty obviously a horse of a different color in terms of perceived and intended use, especially with this exact thing being mentioned in the AMPTP’s “historic offer,” which SAG-AFTRA refused to accept.

Using computer-generated versions of celebrities is far from a new debate. There is even an episode of “Black Mirror” and countless sci-fi and horror properties revolving around the subject. While this tech may be great for a situation like allowing Carrie Fisher to posthumously continue her role as Princess Leia. Or to de-age actors when certain roles call for it. These scans applications can become sinister, especially in cases like Hall’s where consent was NOT given for perpetual use.

So... Snowpiercer season 4 did a full body scan and full range of emotion capture of all the series regulars on the show not ever telling us the real reason why. NOW I know why and it's really disturbing because I didn't consent. #SAGAFTRAstrong #WGA

Snowpiercer star addresses fate of unaired season 4 after show axe
Quote
Snowpiercer star Mike O'Malley has addressed the fate of the show's unaired fourth season.

TNT unexpectedly decided to axe the dystopian thriller earlier this year, despite production on its anticipated conclusion already being completed.

Speaking to TVLine, O'Malley – who played Roche on the series – revealed whether fans will ever be able to see the unaired finale. "I'm trying to get an answer on that," he said.

"But that entire fourth season is in the can and that's going to end up somewhere," he added, noting that the last season had "incredible storytelling done by our [new] showrunner Paul Zbyszewski".

The actor went on to share what fans can expect from season four, saying: "We were actually hoping that we'd keep going, but I think there's an ending to that where it could be the end, and it's very hopeful... So I really, really can't wait for that show to get out there and for people to see it, because it's awesome."

‘Snowpiercer’: AMC Picks Up Season 4 After TNT Scrapped Sci-Fi Drama
Quote
The final season of Snowpiercer has finally found a home.

The fourth season of the sci-fi drama will air on AMC after the company acquired the rights to the Tomorrow Studios-produced series. It comes after TNT scrapped the show last year as part of a wider Warner Bros. Discovery content write-down strategy.

Deadline revealed in January 2023 that the fourth season wouldn’t air on its original home, as part of a slew of content cuts that also included the axing of Batgirl, Abrams’ HBO drama Demimonde, and TBS series such as The Big D, Chad and Kill The Orange Bear.

The first three seasons of the show will stream on AMC+ later this year and season 4 will air on the linear network and the streaming service in early 2025.

Set more than seven years after the world has become a frozen wasteland, Snowpiercer centers on the remnants of humanity who inhabit a perpetually moving train, with 1001 cars, that circles the globe. The third season finale left a split of the train with Melanie Cavill (Jennifer Connelly) leading the Eternal Engine and those passengers who chose to stay aboard Snowpiercer for relative safety, and Andre Layton (Daveed Diggs) leading the others on Big Alice who chose to adventure to the unknown, outside world of New Eden.

Sean Bean, Rowan Blanchard, Alison Wright, Mickey Sumner, Iddo Goldberg, Katie McGuinness, Lena Hall, Sam Otto, Chelsea Harris, Mike O’Malley, Roberto Urbina and Sheila Vand also star with Clark Gregg and Michael Aronov joining for season four.

Snowpiercer season four is executive produced by Paul Zbyszewski, who served as showrunner, Christoph Schrewe, Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements and Alissa Bachner through Tomorrow Studios, Matthew O’Connor, Ben Rosenblatt and Scott Derrickson, and the original film’s producers, including Bong Joon Ho, Miky Lee, Jinnie Choi, Park Chan-wook, Lee Tae-hun and Dooho Choi. The show is produced by Tomorrow Studios along with CJ Entertainment. ITV Studios distributes Snowpiercer internationally and brokered this deal.

“Snowpiercer is an edge-of-your-seat thrill ride with a loyal fanbase – similar to the passionate fandoms we serve across our biggest franchise series – and a welcome addition to AMC and AMC+,” said Ben Davis, EVP of original programming for AMC Networks and AMC Studios. “We look forward to giving viewers an opportunity to binge the first three seasons later this year, in anticipation of the arrival of a remarkable fourth season helmed by Paul Zbyszewski and this stellar cast, which will premiere in 2025.”

Zbyszewski added, “We’re so thrilled the train has finally found a home, and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone at AMC and Tomorrow Studios for giving the fans of Snowpiercer a chance to enjoy season four with all the hard work this amazing cast and crew put into it.”

‘Snowpiercer’ Season 4 Moves to AMC After Being Scrapped at TNT
Quote
“Snowpiercer” Season 4 will see the light of day after all.

AMC has acquired the exclusive U.S. linear and streaming rights to all four seasons of the post-apocalyptic drama series after it was previously axed at its original network home, TNT.

It had already been announced Season 4 would be the show’s last before TNT parent company Warner Bros. Discovery decided to not air Season 4 altogether in a cost-cutting move. Producer Tomorrow Studios then shopped the show to other outlets.

The first three seasons of “Snowpiercer” will be available to stream on AMC+ later this year, while Season 4 will premiere on AMC and AMC+ in early 2025.
