INTERVIEW: Lena Hall Talks Miss Audrey’s Journey on Snowpiercer
Quote
Heading into season 2, though, meant a lot more for Lena Hall as an actress, as she got to share a lot of scenes with Game of Thrones actor Sean Bean.

“It’s so cool, I was really excited when they told me that I was going to be doing a lot of scenes with Sean. I was like really excited and I didn’t know what to expect. I’ve never worked with him before, so I didn’t know what he was like as an actor, what his work ethic is like because everybody varies, everybody is very different on set. And what I love about Sean Bean is that he’s a lot more reserved and quiet than I thought because his characters that he plays are so bigger than life, and he’s played these big characters that made such an impression that you would think that when he walks into a room that that’s him, but he’s more reserved and softer spoken. But when they call action and the camera’s on, he then turns into that, as far as our scenes were concerned, that crazy man or that egomaniac and he finds it from within and he brings all these demons out and it’s so cool to watch him act with no filter on.”

TVLINE | How worried should we be that an outwitted, already-psychotic Wilford (Sean Bean) is now in charge of a 1,000-car train, unchecked?
You should be concerned. You should be concerned. There are a couple people there to possibly rein him in — Ruth (Alison Wright) is there — but you should be concerned. An unchecked Wilford is not good. But it sure is fun to watch Sean play that! [Laughs]

Snowpiercer EP talks season 2 finale, fate of major character
Quote
You must be happy with the way that Sean Bean's devilish characterization of Mr. Wilford turned out this season.
You are absolutely right. We had so many talented actors and so much plot, and there's often quite a bit at stake. Tonally, it's often quite difficult to fit in an oddball character moment, or an off-beat tonal shift, in the storytelling when you have someone's life at stake. In season 1, we had such a significant mutiny story and in season 2 we just chose very early on to have Wilford play his version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory meets Hannibal Lecter, in a way. Is he insane or the most brilliant human left on earth? We don't know. What I love about Shaun is, you just don't know what's coming next in the performance and in the character, so it's very fun. He brings such an unpredictability. We have such very strange moments with him.

How Snowpiercer Sets Up Season 3
Quote
WARNING: The following contains spoilers for the two-part Season 2 finale of Snowpiercer, "The Show Must Go On" and "Into The White."

Season 2 of Snowpiercer ends with quite a bang as Sean Bean's Wilford realizes that all that glitters isn't gold. He felt like he was God again, taking back the 1,034 cars of the Eternal Engine, adding them to Big Alice, only for Layton (Daveed Diggs) and a new revolution to screw the boss over. They ended up breaking off the front end of Snowpiercer to go find Mel, but while they did attain the climate model they were seeking, tragedy hit them hard.

Ironically, Wilford himself lost someone dear to him with Audrey being kidnapped by Layton to use as collateral. So, with all this drama on both sides of the coin, let's dissect what a third season could offer.

Snowpiercer season 2: Miss Audrey star Lena Hall reveals wild mango scene with Sean Bean’s Mr Wilford had ‘weird’ original plan
Quote
Snowpiercer star Lena Hall has revealed the season two scene where Miss Audrey and Mr Wilford (Sean Bean) use a mango to resume their sexual relationship originally featured a very different ‘weird’ scenario. In season one of the Netflix dystopian thriller, the character of Miss Audrey – the lead madam of the eternal train’s Nightcar – remained shrouded in mystery as she helped Andre Layton (Daveed Diggs) lead a revolution against Melanie Cavill (Jennifer Connelly). In the fourth episode of season two, following Wilford’s return after a seven-year absence, it emerges that not only did Audrey used to work as an escort, but she was Wilford’s lover ‘exclusively’. During a recent Zoom chat with Metro.co.uk, Lena opened up about Audrey and Wilford’s reunion, when they go into a private room in the Nightcar and Wilford proceeds to eat a mango out of Audrey’s hand while on his knees, panting heavily after begging her to give in to him.

Lena explained that the mango scene was the ‘first big scene’ she and the Game of Thrones star shared together, emphasising the trust and understanding that they shared between each other as actors. ‘I was like, alright well, I’m going to totally trust him and I’m going to go on the journey with him – we’re in this together,’ the actor stated, saying that ‘when they called action’ it was like an ‘animal came out of nowhere’ from Sean.

‘I learnt a lot acting with [Sean] because he doesn’t care what anyone else thinks. He’s not performing for the camera. He’s performing for a scene. He’s performing for a story,’ Lena said. ‘It’s like watching his guard drop down essentially. It was helpful for me because it was almost an invitation to do the same thing that he was doing, and so that was so exciting for me.’ Despite the huge impact the mango scene had on fans – with one tweeting that they’ll ‘never look at a mango in the same way’ – Lena disclosed that originally, the script writers envisioned Wilford sucking on Audrey’s fingers ‘like a baby’.

‘There’s only so much you can do on network television. So they were like, “How do we convey this without it actually being this? Oh we know”,’ the Broadway star said of the use of the mango as a euphemism. ‘Originally the scene was written that he was sucking my thumb, he was sucking my fingers like a baby, and then they were like, “No, that’s too weird”,’ she recalled. ‘And then they came up with the mango thing and I was like, “And that’s not weirder?!”, she recollected, laughing heartily over the video call. ‘I was like, “I hope people don’t look at mangos the same way”,’ she chuckled. ‘That’s the goal right here.’

The Kinky Boots and Hedwig and the Angry Inch star feels grateful that she and Sean were able to feel comfortable performing their scenes, acknowledging that they ‘did some weird s**t together’. ‘Thank god I was comfortable and thank god there was that invitation there and thank god there was like an understanding there between the two of us, because it would have been tough to do if it was someone else that wasn’t so open to the experience, that wasn’t so open to just like go for it, you know,’ she said. ‘He really went for it. I mean, really went for it and you know, that’s admirable.’

Snowpiercer season 3: Miss Audrey star Lena Hall hopes character ‘hits a rock bottom’ after Mr Wilford reunion
Quote
Snowpiercer star Lena Hall has expressed her hope that Miss Audrey ‘hits a rock bottom’ in season three so that she can portray the burlesque performer’s road to recovery in an authentic way. Season two of the dystopian thriller on Netflix sees Audrey go through an extremely transformative arc, having previously kept her cards very close to her chest. In episode four of the latest series, it’s discovered that Audrey used to be the lover of Mr Wilford (Sean Bean), who manipulated her and forced her to endure emotional and physical abuse. Speaking to Metro.co.uk on a recent Zoom call, Lena revealed that she’s had ‘a lot of people reaching out to me about their own stories and their own abusive relationships that they went through’, understanding ‘how difficult it is to say no or say goodbye to the abusers’.

Having depicted Audrey reunite with Wilford and ‘slip back into her addictions’, which include drinking, drugs and the creator of the eternal train himself, Lena wants Audrey to reach a point where she ‘has to do the work on herself’, having tried to ‘numb the pain of the revolution’. ‘I hope that she hits a bottom, that people see an emotional bottom, a rock bottom, and then a discovery of finally having to do the work herself on herself,’ the Broadway star said.

‘That’s so important to me personally. I think it’s an important story to tell, it’s an important journey to tell, especially from abuse.’ The actor said that she believes that ‘there’s a lot of people out there who could relate to her current story’, as Audrey has made ‘poor choices’ while being perceived ‘as a bad guy’. ‘There’s a lot of us who’ve made really bad choices in the past and there’s a lot of people who are angry at someone because that person keeps making a bad choice, or the wrong choice in their eyes. They don’t understand why that person can’t control what they’re doing,’ she stated. ‘I’d like for her story to go on that journey and tell the story of recovery ‘cause that story is so important to see and to hear. And you know it’s not an easy story to tell because it’s not an easy thing to do. Recovery is very difficult.’ Lena added that it’s not only ‘important’ for viewers who have been in a similar situation to see a recovery narrative, but to also encourage people on ‘the other side’ of the situation ‘to have empathy and patience’ with loved ones ‘who are making bad decisions and can’t stop making bad decisions.

While Audrey may be regarded as a ‘bad guy’ in season two – having seemingly reverted back to Wilford’s side – Lena doesn’t believe that she’s bad to the core. ‘In my eyes the character isn’t actually a bad person – she’s a deeply traumatised human being,’ she said, explaining that Audrey previously took on the responsibility of acting as a therapist to the other passengers of Snowpiercer. ‘She’s been covering the trauma with what she wears, make-up, hair, or with what she does by healing other people. It’s a great way to kind of hide and mask your own pain by helping others,’ Lena outlined. The actor added that she found it ‘interesting’ for Audrey’s storyline to depict her being ‘severed’ from the abuse she suffered prior to Wilford’s seven-year absence, before ‘having to face it head on again’ upon his return.

In Lena’s opinion, Audrey ‘knew all along what was going to happen when Mr Wilford showed his face again’, knowing full well that former train leader Andre Layton (Daveed Diggs) ‘had not a chance in hell against this god-like idol coming back’. As to whether Audrey is actually pulling the wool over Wilford’s eyes, that remains yet to be determined as the cast continue filming season three in Canada. ‘In my mind, Miss Audrey is never fully on anyone’s side except for her own. She’s someone who – and she says to Layton in season two – she says it blatantly and is like, “I’m doing this for myself, not for anybody, but for me”,’ Lena stated. ‘Perhaps she is playing a double game or perhaps she is you know playing both sides or doing what she wants to do with her life. Perhaps she’s tired of fighting a fight.’

The actor believes that had Audrey decided to stay on Snowpiercer with Layton and the rest of his allies, then it ‘would have caused way more problems’ and ‘way more anger as far as Wilford is concerned, ‘cause all he really wanted was her back with him’. ‘So I think at the end of the day she made the decision because she felt she could be much more helpful as a confidante to this god than fighting against a losing battle,’ she said.

Snowpiercer Season 3 Wraps for Early 2022 Debut; Renewed for Season 4
Quote
Fans of TNT's Snowpiercer were on the receiving end of some seriously good news on Thursday, all courtesy of series star Daveed Diggs (Layton) and the rest of the team. In the clip below, Diggs lets fans know that production on the third season has officially wrapped on the third season, which viewers can expect in early 2022. But that wasn't all, because Diggs wanted fans to know that their journey was just extended by an additional season. Yup, TNT has given the series a green light for a fourth season.

Snowpiercer season 3: release date, cast, plot and news for post-apocalyptic Netflix series

Snowpiercer season 3 plot
Quote
No official plot information for the third series has been released thus far – but executive producer Becky Clements has provided a few details about what we can expect in the next series now that the two trains are apart.

Asked if the series will resemble a chase between the two trains, Clements answered, “There will be some chasing, but it will not be the full season. We definitely have lots of narratives happening. There’s survival, there’s [what happened to] Melanie, there’s research on the train, and there’s the ultimate goal….”

In a separate interview with Deadline, Clements said the next series will find all the characters “trying to find their place in their new world” while she also confirmed there would be a time jump to show “what the new world order looks like”.

She added: “It’s a lot of fun in season three, how we have new alliances and new foes. It’s been fun to watch the scene work, putting new people together.”

And she confirmed that we will also learn more about Josie (Katie McGuinness) and her powers, something that was touched upon in season two.

“That’s kind of our fun, interesting, sci-fi genre bit of human augmentation,” she said. “How far can we and should we go in the world of CRISPR. You know, when we start messing with the maker, what happens? So, yes. There’s some interesting stuff coming there, too.”

Sean Bean also discussed the new alliances with the NY Times, and how having to work together with Layton when the trains are reconnected will affect Wilford’s reign.

“Maybe we’ll get to see him in a more reasonable light. There are moments where he has to bargain with people, comply with some of their demands and try to be diplomatic,” Bean said.

“This might give the audience the impression that Wilford’s folding, but there’s always an ulterior motive — it’s never simple. That’s how cunning he is, how good he is at scheming.”

After it was revealed that the world was getting warmer in season two, we fully expect the very timely climate change message to be expanded upon in season three – especially as Melanie seemingly died attempting to collect data on the changing temperatures. With a time jump confirmed, could it soon be warm enough for humanity to escape Wilford?

Snowpiercer: Sean Bean's Mister Wilford Boards The Train In Exclusive BTS Clip
An exclusive, behind-the-scenes clip from Snowpiercer: The Complete Second Season reveals the energy Sean Bean brings to the show as Mister Wilford.
Quote
In anticipation of Snowpiercer: The Complete Second Season's release on Blu-Ray and DVD, CBR can exclusively share a clip from one of the behind-the-scenes featurettes on the set -- specifically one focused on Sean Bean's Mister Wilford and the impact his arrival had on the cast.

A charming but manipulative man, Bean's performance was a highlight of Snowpiercer's second season, especially as he found himself contending with the machinations of Snowpiercer's crew and passengers as they try to push their own agenda and control over the train. In the clip, Bean can be seen inspecting Snowpiercer's engine room for the first time in years. Co-stars Iddo Goldberg (Bennett Knox) and Steven Ogg (Pike) comment on what it's like to work with Bean and the kind of natural energy and atmosphere he adds to his scenes.

'Snowpiercer': Archie Panjabi Makes Her Debut in the First Look at Season 3 (Exclusive)
Quote
Archie Panjabi is about to shake things up on the third season of Snowpiercer, which debuts on TNT in January. Ahead of its 2022 winter premiere, ET has the exclusive first look at the upcoming episodes, which executive producer and showrunner Christoph Schrewe says is all about “hope.”

“Seven years ago, the world ended. Now there are places on the Earth that are warming,” Daveed Diggs’ character, Layton, can be heard saying over new footage of season 3.

After Melanie (Jennifer Connelly) discovered evidence that Earth is slowly starting to warm in season 2, the new episodes will see the inhabitants of the always-moving arc, which remains under the control of Wilford (Sean Bean), confronting an idea they hadn’t thought about since first boarding: finally getting off the train.

But does that hope blind us to the dangers that might be lurking? Is it worth taking the risk? Those are just some of the questions that will be answered as the idea of a thaw grows among the passengers and “changes the power dynamics on board,” Schrewe says, adding, “Allies turn into enemies and enemies turn into allies.”

Snowpiercer: Daveed Diggs & Katie McGuiness Tease Season 3's Vast World
Quote
Daveed, you've really gotten the chance to go head-to-head with Sean Bean's Wilford -- and that conflict reaches a new level in Snowpiercer Season 3. What's it like to have the chance to play off someone like Bean?

Diggs: Every scene with Sean Bean, Sean goes for it. Whatever it is. I think I can safely say that without getting in trouble, that no matter what you're doing with Sean, he is all the way going for it. No scene is different than that, including the ones that seem particularly dangerous for him. That man is a whirlwind to work with and I love it because he is totally unafraid of everything.
