Meanwhile, Time was both a critical and ratings hit in the UK and one of 2021’s highest performing new dramas with nearly 12 million viewers over 30-days for the series overall.
However, the stars of the programme in Sean Bean and Stephen Graham will not be returning as it will focus on a new story in a all-female prison.

‘Disgraceful neglect of Line of Duty’: the wrongs and rights of the Bafta TV nominations | Television
Quote
Bafta has various special awards at its disposal and should use one to correct the disgraceful neglect of Mercurio and Line of Duty.
With that show overlooked, the BBC should be grateful to Time, which gives the corporation its strongest presence among the drama contenders. From the extraordinary psychological and emotional duel between Sean Bean’s agonised inmate and Stephen Graham’s tortured prison warder, jurors have chosen Bean, although he may still be beaten by Graham, who makes the same shortlist for Help, the Channel 4 care home drama that gives the Covid pandemic its most direct reflection in the prizes. Confirming Graham’s status as one of the best screen actors, a place has been found for his Time performance in the supporting actor category.

It’s A Sin to Mare of Easttown: who will win the 2022 TV Bafta awards – and who really deserves to?
Quote
Leading actor
David Thewlis – Landscapers (Sky Atlantic/HBO)
 Hugh Quarshie – Stephen (ITV)
 Olly Alexander – It’s a Sin (Channel 4)
Samuel Adewunmi – You Don’t Know Me (BBC One)
Sean Bean – Time (BBC One)
Stephen Graham – Help (Channel 4)

A good example of expanded shortlists (there used to be only four names) allowing true diversity. The “next generation” case is strongly made by Olly Alexander’s gay tragic hero in It’s A Sin, against the “great generation” represented by Sean Bean as a repenting prisoner in Time, although Bean is ironically under pressure from his Time co-star, Stephen Graham, as a Covid care home patient in Help. Graham has strong acting heat around him but this probably will – and just about should – be Alexander’s.

BAFTA TV Awards: BBC Prison Drama ‘Time’ Beats Channel 4/HBO’s ‘It’s A Sin’ To Best Mini-Series
Quote
BBC One prison drama Time has beaten Channel 4/HBO’s It’s a Sin to the Best Mini-Series BAFTA TV Award.

The Stephen Graham and Sean Bean-starring three-parter featured the two leads as a prison officer and prisoner. It was bruisingly realistic and has won its leads critical acclaim, both of whom are nominated at tonight’s awards.

“Normally everyone says we weren’t expecting this but on my ma’s life we really weren’t expecting this,” said Graham, collecting the award alongside execs.

Graham said the show had a “phenomenal cast of working class men who did outstanding powerful work.”

He praised the other nominees and said “we’re all winners, this is what we do.”

The show is a surprise winner, beating Russell T Davies’ It’s a Sin, Sky’s Olivia Colman-starring Landscapers and ITV’s Stephen Lawrence drama Stephen.

BAFTA TV Awards: Sean Bean Wins Leading Actor for BBC Prison Drama ‘Time’, Beating ‘It’s A Sin’s’ Olly Alexander And Stephen Graham
Quote
BBC prison drama Time star Sean Bean has beaten It’s A Sin lead Olly Alexander and his Time co-star Stephen Graham to the coveted Leading Actor award at tonight’s BAFTA TV Awards.

The award was presented by IT Crowd star Katherine Parkinson and saw Bean also beat off competition from Sky’s Landscapers’ David Thewlis, ITV’s Stephen’s Hugh Quarshie, You Don’t Know Me’s Samuel Adewunmi and Help star Stephen Graham, who featured opposite Bean in Time.

A speech was read out on Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings star Bean’s behalf, thanking the creators and Graham, “without whose passion I wouldn’t be receiving this tonight.”

Bean was away filming and couldn’t attend the ceremony.

The gong is his second BAFTA, having won Leading Actor for the BBC’s Broken in 2017.

This was tough for me. I have never had something like this happen. Michael Keaton (my second favourite actor) was phenomenal in Dopesick... It was cool to see them in the same category. My dream is to see them share the screen one day... Won't happen, but a man can dream....

Anyway, I voted for Bean and Time.

VARIETY STREAMING ROOM
Sean Bean, Stephen Graham Discuss Shooting Britbox’s ‘Time’ in a Real-Life Prison

Quote
In the BBC drama “Time,” Sean Bean plays Mark, a former teacher struggling to adapt to prison after being sentenced for four years for manslaughter. During a conversation with Variety, Bean talked about getting into character to play a man tormented by his mistakes.

“He’s killed someone, but he’s actually a much, much better man for it,” Bean told Variety. “And I think that’s what Jimmy [McGovern] manages to get across, is that we have to go through so much pain and anguish and shock and sadness in our lives in order to come out a better person. And that’s quite heroic in some sense.”

Graham, who plays prison guard Eric, shared during the panel that he was a long-time fan of Bean from the 1993 ITV series “Sharpe.” Graham described Bean as a role model for him in some ways, as another actor from a working class background.

“To be able to share the screen with him and be a part of something that he’s in and collaborate together, for me … it has just always been an absolute gift to work with Sean,” Graham said. “And I really hope Jimmy’s got another one, maybe not for a couple of years or whatever. But I hope he’s got another one in the bag there for me and Sean to do later on down the line. You know what I mean? Before he throws the towel in. I’d love that.”

Prison drama 'Time' with Stephen Graham and Sean Bean comes to the NPO
Quote
The BBC's new British drama series Time will be added to NPO Plus' offerings on July 6.
For a long time, despite his favorable reviews and top rating, nothing was known about a deal with a Dutch provider. It was then already in line with the expectation that the series would eventually find its way to our cold little country.

NPO Plus subscribers can watch the series from 6 July. If you want to watch TV every week, you will have to wait a little longer. The NPO 2 will broadcast the series from September 30.

It was disappointing to see that Sean Bean, and Time in general, was completely absent from the International Emmy nominations.
Oh well. I must not understand the qualifications because Narcos: Mexico was nominated here but not for Prime Time.
