Sean Bean's loyalties split between Somerset and Yorkshire when quizzed on his favourite place
Sean Bean is fronting a film to persuade people across the world to come to Yorkshire when he is actually living hundreds of miles away in Somerset. The Lord of the Rings actor is starring in the global campaign to promote the northern county as 'Gods Own Country'.
Award winning filmmakers Sid Sadowskyj and Scott Elliott have teamed up with the BAFTA winning actor for the cinematic campaign which has the backing of local councils and businesses. Game of Thrones star Bean is the voice of the film which waxes lyrical about the county where he grew up.
The 63-year-old actor is still continually associated with his home county even though he he has told how he has finally found his peaceful idyll in the West Country. He moved here after marrying fifth wife Ashley Moore in 2017 and once said: "In Somerset I feel as if I’ve really found the place where I feel settled and content."
When he's not on location in places such as Canada, where SnowPiercer is filmed, most days he can be found pottering around his large garden, He developed a love of the outdoors growing up in Sheffield in the 1960s and 1970s and this grew into a passion for gardening.
But despite living Somerset, the Hollywod star is still best known for his northern roots and for playing, Ned Stark Lord of Winterfell. In an the well known TV advert for Yorkshire Tea he brandishes a sword as he gives new starters a pep talk and yells at them to go out there and "do it for each other, do it for yourselves, most of all do it for Yorkshire."
In a survey to find the greatest living Yorkshireman, Bean was pipped at the post by Michael Palin, who has lived in London for 50 years, and Sir Patrick Stewart, who emigrated to the Cotswolds, was third.
When asked in an interview to name his favourite place on earth, Bean diplomatically replied: "If this is a heart thing, then it would probably be my home town, Sheffield. If it is somewhere now that I’ve chosen to be, it’s here in Somerset."
Meanwhile avid Bean fans are eagerly awaiting his latest project, The Marriage. Filming has completed the latest release says it will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer later this year.
