Orlando Bloom is bloodied and bruised as he films latest scenes with Bryce Dallas Howard for outlandish Prime Video action-comedy Deep Cover
Quote
One minute you're dressed like an aging beat poet, the next you're a frustrated court jester enticing central London shoppers into a flash sale.

No-one could argue against Orlando Bloom's latest role being varied, not even the actor himself - who was back on set as location filming continued in the English capital on Wednesday.

The British star, 47, is currently shooting Deep Cover, a forthcoming Amazon Prime original about three hapless improvisational actors who have been hired by the police to assist in the staging of potentially dangerous low-level stings.

As well as Bloom and Howard, the forthcoming film features House Of The Dragon star Paddy Considine and Ted Lasso's Nick Mohammed, who were also present on Wednesday.

“It's Life or Death,” Orlando Bloom Says of His New Series ‘To the Edge’
Bloom discusses the stakes of his 3-episode docuseries and future projects like 'Deep Cover,' A24's 'Wizards!,' and 'The Cut.'

Orlando Blooms Shares the "Unusual" Premise of 'Deep Cover'

I definitely have to touch on two other things. I'm a big fan of your fellow castmates of Deep Cover, and I know you shot that. What was it about that project that said, “I want to do it?” And I know what it's about, but what do you want to tell people about it?

BLOOM: First of all, I love the cast. Wonderful people. Colin Trevorrow, who produces, called me and talked about [it]. The premise is Bryce Dallas Howard is a teacher who's teaching improvisation classes. Nick Mohammed is a banker who's looking for confidence, so he comes to the improvisation class, stumbles across it. I am a method actor who's out of work, like an actor who takes himself too seriously, who's in an improvisation class and is earnestly overserious. It is a comedy, hopefully funny enough for everybody. Sean Bean, Paddy Considine, Ian McShane all have these kinds of wonderful, scene-stealing cameos.

It's just a really unusual premise of these three unknown people coming together. It starts off with Sean Bean, who's this basically crooked cop, as we had come to understand it, saying, “Hey, they sell blocks of cigarettes across the road in London, the black market. Go in and try to buy them, and if you buy them then we'll nab these people.” But because I’m method, I kind of escalate it. I’m like, “You think we want these soppy…? No. We want the real stuff.” And it suddenly turns into this massive underworld, underground drug chase with these people who have no idea what they're doing. So the circumstances are set for, hopefully, amusement and laughter. It's a sort of action-comedy caper, if you like. I thought that the script was excellently executed. And I thought that Tom Kingsley, the director, who's this great British director who did this show Stath Lets Flats, worked really well with Colin to make this show a great sort of spectacle. It was a wonderful, wonderful experience.

Orlando Bloom Discusses Playing a Method Actor Who Goes Too Far in His Upcoming Comedy 'Deep Cover'
Quote
Deep Cover is an upcoming comedy movie starring Orlando Bloom, Bryce Dallas Howard and Nick Mohammed.
The movie follows three improv actors hired by the police for low-level operations.
Bloom teases a "wild chase" scene in the movie involving a crooked cop played by Sean Bean.

"First of all, I love the cast. Wonderful people. Colin Trevorrow, who produces, called me and talked about [it]. Bryce Dallas Howard plays a teacher who teaches improvisation classes. Nick Mohammed plays a banker who's looking for confidence and stumbles into the class. I play a method actor who's out of work and takes himself too seriously, adding a funny twist to the improvisation class."

The film includes appearances from actors like Sean Bean, Paddy Considine, and Ian McShane, who all play scene-stealing roles. Bloom detailed a funny scenario that sets the story in motion, involving Bean's character:
"It starts off with Sean Bean, who plays a crooked cop, saying, ‘Hey, they sell blocks of cigarettes across the road in London, the black market. Go in and try to buy them, and if you buy them then we'll nab these people.’ But because I’m method, I escalate things. I say, ‘You think we want these soppy…? No. We want the real stuff.’ It then turns into a wild chase involving the underground drug market with characters who are totally out of their depth."

Bloom is hopeful that the film will be entertaining: "It is a comedy, meant to be funny for everyone." He described Deep Cover as an action-comedy that mixes silly situations with thrilling moments.

Here's What We Learned About Bryce Dallas Howard and Orlando Bloom's New Comedy
Quote
This past weekend at Fan Expo Boston, Bryce Dallas Howard sat down with Collider's Steve Weintraub to discuss her latest project, the highly anticipated action comedy Deep Cover. The film, based on an original script by Derek Connolly and Colin Trevorrow, sees Howard teaming up with an all-star cast for a hilariously chaotic adventure. The movie, which began filming in February, centers on three improv actors who are recruited by the police to stage low-level stings. Their commitment to never breaking character plunges them deep into London's criminal underworld.

Howard couldn't contain her excitement when speaking about the project. "It's really fun, it's a comedy," she said. "It's with Orlando Bloom, Nick Mohammed, Paddy Considine. I mean, it's a great cast, and it's basically about a group of actors who accidentally get sucked into an undercover criminal operation, and they're trying to stay alive. It's really quite fun."

Howard provided some insight into the film's premise and her role in it, explaining that the film is firmly a farce from the very beginning. She said:

"I play a comedy improv teacher who's like a failed actor. She's very quick on her feet, you know, and she basically gets recruited by Sean Bean to participate in a very low-level sort of sting operation, and she needs to bring two of her students. She knows the two students she wants to bring. Unfortunately, they get agents. So she ends up choosing her two worst students."

Describing the dynamic between the characters, Howard elaborated, "Orlando Bloom, a method actor — not in real life. He's not a method actor in real life, but he's playing a method actor. And Nick Mohammed, who is in Ted Lasso, plays a guy who basically has zero self-esteem and is taking these classes in order to have more social courage. And so she goes into this supposedly low-stakes circumstance with these two fools. And things go awry as you can imagine. It’s a romp. It's really, really, really funny."

Reflecting on her experience, Howard revealed, "I just saw it a couple of nights ago. It was really cool." With such a stellar cast and a compelling storyline, Deep Cover is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated comedies of the year.
