TCA 2014: “Maybe it's the quality of my death,” “Game of Thrones” alum says of people's fascination with watching him kick the bucket
Sean Bean‘s long history of getting killed on screen kicked off a lively discussion at the Television Critics Association for TNT's upcoming drama “Legends,” as the actor reflected on the public's interest in watching him die.
Asked about audience's fascination with Bean's fictional deaths, the actor — whose onscreen demises include a memorable beheading on HBO's “Game of Thrones” — suggested that the interest might be due to the fact that he's just so good at dying.

“Quite bizarre, isn't it?” Bean mused. “I've died quite a few times, actually, and I've died quite a few different deaths. Maybe it's the quality of my death.”
Asked about his personal favorite onscreen death, Bean voted for his offing in the “Lord of the Rings” film series.

In “Legends” — which premieres Aug. 13 — Bean plays Martin Odum, an FBI agent who has the ability to transform himself into a different person for each mission, but begins to question his own identity. Bean noted that the opportunity to play multiple characters — along with the chance to work with Howard Gordon, an executive producer on the series — was one of the main draws to the series.
He did, however, concede that the chameleon-like aspect of his character can lead to personal difficulty.
“It is sometimes hard to switch off. The more intense the production, the more you're involved, there is a residue,” Bean admitted.
Maybe if it gets to be too much of a burden for him, they can take a bit of the load off by killing a few of his characters. |
