Filmmaker Duncan Jones has revealed the casting for his upcoming adaption of Rogue Trooper, a project which was first announced in 2018.
The futuristic soldier, a staple of long-running UK comic 2000 AD, will be played by Bridgend's Aneurin Barnard.
And it seems the character will also be a Welshman, with Jones tweeting hints about his nationality.
"I'd just like to take credit for giving the world its first non-Tom Jones Welsh superhero," posted the director, who won a BAFTA for his debut 2009 film Moon.
The 52-year-old added: "A Welsh Rogue Trooper, how the hell did that happen?", before admitting being inspired by the rousing speech Newport-born actor Michael Sheen gave on TV in 2002 for Wales's football team ahead of the World Cup.
Asked by one fan if the character will have a Welsh accent, Jones replied: "It is a very, very regional film."

ABOUT THE FILMhttps://roguetrooper.com/
Rogue Trooper tells the story of 19, a ‘Genetic Infantryman', who finds himself the sole-survivor of an invasion force. Desperate to track down the traitor who sold him and his comrades out, the super soldier is accompanied by three killed-in-action squad mates, whose personalities have been stored in his gun, helmet and rucksack.
Based on the classic 2000 AD comic series, Rogue Trooper has been written and directed by Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code, Warcraft, Mute). It will star breakout talent Aneurin Barnard (The Goldfinch, Dunkirk) as the eponymous Rogue Trooper, alongside Hayley Atwell (Captain America: The First Avenger, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One), Jack Lowden (Slow Horses, Dunkirk), Daryl McCormack (Bad Sisters, Good Luck To You Leo Grande) and Reece Shearsmith (Inside No. 9, Saltburn).

The eagerly anticipated animated science fiction feature from Rebellion and Liberty Films will be out in 2025.
Based on the classic 2000 AD comic series created by Gerry Finley-Day and Dave Gibbons.
Aneurin Barnard will be playing the main character, the eponymous Rogue Trooper, who in the film will be referred to as ‘19’. None of the other principle cast members announced for the film – Hayley Atwell, Jack Lowden, Daryl McCormack, and Reece Shearsmith, nor those of Jemaine Clement, Matt Berry, Diane Morgan, Alice Lowe, Asa Butterfield, and Sean Bean – have had their roles revealed so they could be anything from other Genetic Infantrymen, Rogue’s fallen allies, members of either of the two warring armies, scientists, or something else entirely. And someone – of course – will be the mysterious traitor general that Rogue/19 will hunt down.https://www.comicsbeat.com/duncan-jones-rogue-trooper-adaptation-breaks-silence-with-major-reveal/
Shardlake Disney+https://www.denofgeek.com/tv/new-british-crime-drama-cosy-crime-detective-series-murder-mysteries-serial-killer-shows/
Something a little different from your average whodunnit here – a whodunnit set in the Tudor period, about the dissolution of England’s monasteries. It’s a battle of the Cromwells on TV in 2024, with Sean Bean playing Henry VIII’s erstwhile right-hand-man Thomas Cromwell in Shardlake, and Mark Rylance playing him in the BBC’s return to Hilary Mantel’s Wolf Hall. Adapted by The Last Kingdom’s Stephen Butchard from the mystery novel series of the same name by CJ Sansom, this one’s the story of a murder and the young lawyer tasked with solving it while sussing out dodgy monks and a potential mole.
