Wicked Blood review

What I liked the most about this movie is Hannah’s character. Throughout the movie, she always draws parallels between real life and chess. She is a very good chess player and kind of sees all as a big chess game. She knows how to play out the pieces one by one to later, hopefully, being able to say “checkmate”. She is just this cool girl wanting a better life and are willing to take every risk to get it. Believe me, you will be surprised of her actions.

What I also liked is how they portrayed uncle Frank. His office was very dark with only one lamp on his desk, that was placed in the middle of the room, almost making it look like he was Don Vito Corleone from “The Godfather”. I must add that I thought that Sean Bean did a really good job being the scary, bad and powerful guy.

There was really easy to see the contrast between uncle Donny and Frank. While Frank was living in this nice house with a big porch, Donny’s life was more “white trash”. I just never understood why the girls weren’t living with Frank instead, since he always said that he takes care of the family and it actually seemed like he cared about them a little bit. But maybe Frank is this big douche who only cares about himself, at least it seemed like it. But if they lived with Frank, the story would have been completely different.

I liked this movie, it was never boring. They kept the story interesting throughout and, as I wrote, the things Hanna does are really chocking. But in a good way.

When I saw this film it became one of my favorite films at the festival. It was powerful with an interesting story. The film starts with a caravan exploding and burn up, we later found out what happened. There are few films that start that way, revealing the end. The director, Mark Young, did a great job with that and I thought it made the movie even more interesting.

I will probably watch this film again sometime, I liked it very much. I have already told many of my friends about it and can recommend it to anyone. Even if the story is sad the film is still funny and I laughed a lot when I saw it. People in all ages can see it and still feel the same thing.

These two reviews from the Santa Barbara Film Festival were the only two I could find so far.
If I see negative reviews I'll post them too.

. Without exaggerating, I actually think this is one of Sean Bean's finest performances to date

it's hard to put my finger on really but it feels like there is something missing from this movie. Something to make it truly work out as a great and totally successful one.

But really, it's still a perfectly watchable movie. Despite a somewhat slower pace at the start of it, it never becomes a 'slow' or boring one to watch as well. The movie also is definitely worth watching for the acting alone. Really all of the actors are great in this and the young Abigail Breslin once again does a great job carrying a movie for most part.
A good movie, that so easily could have been a great one though.

You can’t help feel there was something missing from Wicked Blood, an ingredient that would have lifted this film from mediocrity, but, having said that, I was certainly entertained throughout the entire running time.

I have yet to watch a Sean Bean movie that lets me utterly disappointed, the guy has a taste for choosing films, that much is true.
A decent movie yo might want to check out.

I've just seen the film, and I'm sorry, but it is simply too awful for anything but straight to dvd. Sean's character is a cookie cutter villain. He stumbles through the lame dialog, sounding as if he phoned in his lines. There is no insight into his character and Sean is never left to just simply run with it in hopes of turning Uncle Frank into something other than a worm under a rock. At least in Cash he brought to life a very complex and entertaining villain. In this case, he more or less just sits and chews on the scenery. There are no surprises in the plot as every move is telegraphed by the characters well in advance of the actions that are supposed to thrill you. Purefoy does a slightly better job of actually emoting anything other than the lowlife character that you're supposed to believe he is. This whole film just skipped over the whole concept of character development, trying instead for jolting plot twists and turns that simply didn't surprise in the least.

All that being said, I'm not cancelling my pre-order of the dvd because I want it for my collection.

I want the DVD to. As I always tell people even if the movie is terrible Sean is always GOOD. Even if this is not
his best movie, I'm already in LOVE with his SEXIE SOUTHERN ACCENT !!!

I saw Wicked Blood last night. I don't want to spoil you or make you prejudge it, but it is just missing a lot of things that make up a movie ... and Sean unfortunately didn't get to do much - despite 2nd billing - which is a waste of his talents and really a drag!  Considering that he and James Purefoy wanted to do a movie together, they have very little screen time together and hardly any interaction. I did like the music though.
I don’t know if I feel confident enough to write a review about WB. But if so, it won’t see the light of the net until the movie’s official release on March 5.
I continued the evening with watching Sharpe’s Sword. EFi

There isn't anything in this film that we haven't seen somewhere else, but the acting is good, the characters are likeable and the plot is simple.
It's a movie worth watching once.
I do wish we got a bit more from Purefoy and Bean, I think that is the biggest disappointment in this film.

Bean as Frank Stinson says everything short and sweet. But when he realizes someone is stealing from him and men who work for him are killed – this character becomes determined and that’s just the cherry on top of the revenge cake. From LORD OF THE RINGS to GAME OF THRONES it’s always a treat to see Bean play a character less like what we’ve come to expect.

Filmed with a grit that is a character all its own lends real authenticity to the story. Director/writer Young chose his cast and setting wisely pulling off a film that I truly enjoyed watching. I’m a huge fan of Breslin, Bean and Purefoy and with the addition of Vega, Busey and Temple the film wins!

Blu-ray Review: WICKED BLOOD
Quote
Okay, I honestly liked everything about this gritty movie! There’s not a lot of action but the story was really cool and all of the characters were fantastic, thanks to this outstanding cast! Everything is captured here in this small southern setting, from the dirty and corrupt drug dealers to the innocence lost along the way. Wicked Blood is one of those little gems that you might pass up by first looking at it but it’s one that definitely should be watched!

'Wicked Blood' DVD Review: Family is blood

This is one movie that is very interesting to watch. The action is good and the story keeps you into the movie
Director Mark Young does an excellent job with this one. The seedier side to life is brought out beautifully. He has also brought a cast that fits very well to their characters.

Eone is bringing us a DVD on March 4th, 2014 that you will want to pick up and have in your library. The quality of sound and visual are very well done.

Wicked Blood  [Blu-Ray]
Blu-ray A - America - Entertainment One
Review written by and copyright: Ethan Stevenson (3rd March 2014
Quote
In the end "Wicked Blood" feels unnecessary. It brings nothing to the table, is a disappointing case of misused talents, and has the distinction of feeling far longer than it actually is. "Wicked Blood" is messy and relies on an overused metaphor for a sense of faux profundity, but it's never terrible enough to having lasting impact. It’s just uneven and unoriginal. I can't decide if the worst crime "Wicked Blood" commits is underutilizing its A-list cast or the shocking unoriginality of the production. The film brings nothing to the table and adds no new ideas to the genre. Breslin gives a wildly uneven performance, and has no sisterly chemistry with costar PenaVega. Bean and Purefoy both sport fine southern accents, but their characters have so little screen time they’re more like decorative touches to a story that's ultimately lazily executed.

The Film: C- Video: A- Audio: C Extras: D+ Overall: C

 Review Wicked Blood (Blu-ray)
Quote
Judging by the box cover and official descriptions of the movie you’d expect an action fueled, fast-paced movie but it’s nothing of the sort. Surprisingly, what you’ll get is a slow burn, character driven narrative that eases its way to a big finale.

The story moves along and the pieces all begin to fall into place with some interesting and surprising turns. What makes this stand out and rise above just another small budget, small town drug story are the performances by everyone involved. This could have been just another paycheck but each of the actors really brings their best and they breathe life into their characters making you actually care what happens to them.

Conclusion:
A surprise all around and really in a good way. I fully expected much more action and violence going in but what’s presented is a much quieter and slower paced story and it’s better for it. The script is good, nothing to light the world on fire, but the acting is so good that it raises everything else up with it. This one is definitely worth a look.

The actors for this film couldn’t have been better chosen. Leading actress Abigail Breslin puts on a great performance along side some of our favourites: Alexa Vega, Lew Temple, James Purefoy, and the superbly evil Sean Bean. Wicked Blood didn’t hold anything back when choosing its stars and in our opinion they all fit just perfectly. Over all we thoroughly enjoyed this film. Mark Young, has written and directed a few movies now, but Wicked Blood definitely has to be one of his biggest films to date. We felt he did a great job at creating a believable and oddly beautiful atmosphere.

My WB DVD arrived today   :snoopy:

I'm not the right person to write a review  because I like every film with Sean.I just like to say that the interview with Sean is quite nice.

Only the James Purefoy and Abigail Breslin interviews are online so far.
